Windows XP Encryption Query

I have recently been reading about backing up the certificates for the password protected directories on XP.
As my whole file system is encrypted with this, will i be able to put my hard drive image onto another hard drive and use it as normal, or do i actually have to have these certificates?

I havent found a way to back up these certificates as yet, so if this is the case does anyone know where i can get the information to do so?
