I'm a little confused: are the two products now one and the same? I have both (uninstalled) on my Win 7 machine, but what I've read leaves me uncertain about which is what for Win 7. Advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Windows Defender on Win7 = anti-PUP
MSE on Win7 = basic AV scanner like any others

Windows Defender on Win8/10 = improved MSE

Thanks for those. I'll fire up MSE again. It seems to have been what keeps my hard drive spinning on and off. Perhaps it will behave.

    o
on Win7 , you have better choices than MSE ; on Win10 i keep WinDef because it is integrated; i don't use it as my main protection.

OK, I'll bite: what's a better choice for Win 7?
    Thanks

That is you to find, everybody has different tastes and goals while using security products. I don't use AV anymore , but Emsisoft was my favorite.

@guest - if you don't use AV anymore, what do you use? Malwarebytes 3?
