Time won't synchronize, Windows 7 64 bit pro. Manually trying to synch. I've been at it for a while and tried various things. 'An error occurred while windows was synchronizing with windows.time.com.' or something like that. Once or twice the 'peer' version. I did try a couple of things. services.msc, netstat etc. I did try a bit too much when I got 'System error 1290 has occurred. The service start failed since one or more services in the same process have an incompatible service SID type setting. A service with restricted service SID type can only coexist in the same process with other services with a restricted SID type. If the service SID type for this service was just configured, the hosting process must be restarted in order to start this service.' Which I could not fix, except by restoring an image. But still, time won't synchronize. I would rather not rely on an untrusted third part utility. Any suggestions ? The service seems to be running.
You don't need Windows Time service to run to manually synchronize it. Check your firewall settings (if use outbound monitoring or other 3rd party FW) and try to disable it also. Also try synchronizing with some other server.
@Minimalist , Actually, it seems it is set at automatic. I tried completely disabling the firewall (only router), no luck. Same for restarting router. Other server: no luck.
A few more things for you to try https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...ndowscom/d81a02ad-2334-488d-8829-d7ae03c1f55a
Usually when this fails me it fixes it to change your NTP server. Here is a list of some to try: https://tf.nist.gov/tf-cgi/servers.cgi Of course if you are not in the US you might want to find something closer.
@xxJackxx , A tried a few, no luck. I did try running cmd as adminstrator, unregistering and reregistering the time service (w32tm), stopping and restarting the time service, no clue.
I don't think that time service has anything to do with it. I have it disabled since I can remember and always could manually trigger time update with no problems.
@Minimalist , Thanks. 'net time' states that it cannot find a time server ?? time.windows.com is the one I use. Latest message 'the peer is unreachable'. I don't want to mess it up again and get a message like in post #1. It seems there is an issue between w32time and the net time command. Not my cup of tea.
@Fly In past when I got message "An error occurred while windows was synchronizing with windows.time.com" it was either blocked by firewall or there was a problem on server's side. I got problem resolved by enabling all traffic in FW or by changing a server and try to update from nist server. If non of those steps help, then I don't know what could cause a problem.
I do find that time.windows.com is often too slow to respond and therefore fails on the majority of PCs I encounter. It obviously can be a firewall issue but as far as I know every Windows PC made comes with that server as the default. It is likely getting hammered with traffic on a regular basis. I have better results personally with time-b.nist.gov but that may not be the best option depending on your location.
'You should not use the Net time command to configure or set time when the Windows Time service is running.' now they tell me. And after my latest attempt I don't have permission to change the internet time ... Restoring an image ... this is crazy This time time.nist.gov ... nope disabling the firewall ... nothing I don'tknow why it goes wrong. I'm no techie.
For what it's worth, on my two Windows 7 x64 systems, I see the same "An error occurred while Windows was synchronizing with [name of time server]" issue. I cannot tell if this is a relative recent issue, since earlier this year, or if the issue is there for years. Selecting a different time server, disabling the third party firewall and/or disabling HitmanPro.Alert all didn't make any difference. I haven't tried disabling and re-registering w32tm. I don't want to mess with that if I don't need to. Neither have I tried disabling my router firewall. My router is an ISP router with firewall options mostly limited to on/off, I don't want to turn it off for a triviality like Windows time synchronization.
hi there are europe servers http://www.pool.ntp.org/zone/europe but how can i add some of them in the registry? here Code: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DateTime\Servers or Code: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DateTime\Servers thanks
Use this as a guide to use the registry: http://smallbusiness.chron.com/set-internet-time-server-registry-50842.html Also, try more than one server if it does not work. I had a PC once where I had to try 5 before I got one that worked reliably.
Also check that you don't use VPN or proxy. It looks like my VPN service provider doesn't support NTP protocol so I can't update my time when connected to VPN server.
Good point. There is a very short timeout window for NTP synchronization. A VPN can add latency or make you appear to be in the wrong time zone. Also to anyone having this problem, make sure your system date is correct or it will not work.
I just managed to sync with time nist gov ... don't ask me how ... @Minimalist , Not using a VPN yet ... the local dragnet may start a bit later.
hi xxJackXX are you sure the tutorial is right? i guess the server should be added in the keys in the %14 and after change in the time settings
On Windows 10 -1709 pro 64bit, yesterday and today error 134 "NtpClient was unable to set a manual peer to use as a time source because of DNS resolution error on 'time.windows.com,0x9'. NtpClient will try again in 15 minutes and double the reattempt interval thereafter. The error was: No such host is known. (0x80072AF9)" I'd like to change it to time-a.nist.gov which I used on XP, but can't find a way to set it. Windows 10 is becoming a pain. BTW, my clock is ok, but it annoys me that I can't find where we used to be able to enter time servers. One more thing, I pinged time.windows.com and it failed.
It might be a DNS issue as you mentioned. You can use what ever you like in Windows 10. Go to Control Panel > Clock, Languages and Region > Set the time and date > Internet time tab > Change settings. Now just enter what ever you want. I have mine set to au.pool.ntp.org.
If time is more than 5 minutes off it wont sync. Try setting it manually so its closer to the correct time (within 5 minutes) and sync it.
Adding to this thread, so I don't have to open another. While dual booting Linux and Windows, the Windows time is always off and I can't how to fix it in the registry. Thanks.
