Continuing with our set of compatibility tests, today we are going to take a look at ESET Smart Security 4 integration and functionality under Microsoft's latest operative system Beta version in its build 7000.

ESET Smart Security 4 is the new integrated security solution from the same developers of the highly popular NOD32 Antivirus that bundles antivirus, antispyware, antispam and personal firewall under one single title.

    Install & Run
To start with, installing ESET was a really quick and easy procedure, only a few choices to be made like typical or custom installation mode, entering username and password, and a few more steps later it was completed.

It took no longer than a couple of minutes to get ESET to run for the first time, it did not even ask for reboot. After that ESET asked me to choose network protection, the options were Strict protection and Allow sharing.

At first sight there were no bugs, no warnings appeared at all, just applied common sense and everything was fine. The setup file was only 35MB so it was a short download time as well. The only thing I can complaint about is that although I've chosen "Allow sharing" network protection mode I had to readjust this in order to have my network working properly.

As you can see in the next screenshot ESET did not turn Allow sharing mode on all my subnets, thus causing trouble with the other machines connected to it. Anyway, it was simple to fix this, just went Setup - Change the protection mode of your computer in the network… - and selected the subnet which was not under the Allow sharing mode and changed it to this value.

    Updating
On the other hand, I found that ESET is very efficient regarding updating issues, not long after starting for the first time it automatically updated the virus signature database and informed me via a popup window that it had been successfully updated, in my opinion, this was an unexpected event but highly positive. .

In a way this also indicates that ESET has a really good integration with Windows 7 environment, as you can see, Action center shows an accurate report about it. More

Nice review, good to see it's all working well as I still haven't had a chance to properly test windows 7.

This is a quality written software. I'm pleasantly surprised by the outcome of the test. Great!

well, i've tested the ESS 4 Beta and windows 7 build 7100 and after activating the interactive mode of the firewall all my connections had been blocked :X

i got an error from my network adapter - and not any bit from any network...

When i deactivated the firewall, everything worked fine..

    Hello,

You may wish to test with ESET Smart Security v4.0.424.0, instead.

I belive the Self-defense module is not working properly in Win7 rc.The kernel process (Ekrn.exe) can be end by using Windows Task Manager.
