According to an article on Winfuture the RC is planned for April.
Does anyone have an idea when the final can be expected ?

Reason I ask is that I intend to switch from desktop to a new laptop - and
dual boot with Linux as I do now.
Problem is that all laptops have Vista pre-loaded, but if the Windows 7 RC
is out in April surely the final will be out sooner than envisaged sometime
Dec/Jan ? If much sooner I would hold off on my purchase. :argh:

If I recall correctly, September ? Or fall/autumn ? (According to Microsoft)

    I'm not sure.

From what I've read, Microsoft wants to release Windows 7 early.

But if you look at their history, they released a new OS later than planned/announced (nearly?) every time .

Yes it was preached that windows 7 will be out this year. Hopefully in time for the Christmas sales. :)

    Ocky,

You could triple boot when Win 7 is released if you have to buy your laptop earlier. My desktop has 10 boot items and they work well together. XP (two), Vista, Win 7, Ubuntu, DOS, FreeDOS, etc.

the only problem with that is you then have to pay for vista with the laptop and windows 7 after.
who wants to pay ms twice lol?

Likely MS is shooting for August/September to catch the back-to-school crowd, so expect October.

The Win7 Free upgrade program begins on July 1 so it must not be too far down the road for the release.

That sounds like good news. Excuse my ignorance, but how does
this work - would one need to download and then install (many GB's), or just
upgrade online overwriting Vista (a la Ubuntu); or does one receive
an installation CD. I have not had the need to do this type of upgrade
before with Windows so am clueless.

Several off topic posts removed. Posts about Linux do not belong in this thread
