The most recent Windows 11 preview builds reportedly come with a bug that breaks down the key lights for Caps Lock, Scroll Lock, and Num Lock, according to some insiders who installed them.

More specifically, a post in the Windows Feedback Hub reveals that the problem happens on Windows 11 build 22494 and later, with several users explaining that while the keys work properly, the lights don’t turn on. This makes it pretty hard to figure out when they’re activated, and in some cases, users are tempted to believe it’s a hardware issue happening on their keyboards.

The problem also exists in Windows 11 build 22499, the most recent release in the Dev channel.

Needless to say, there’s no workaround for the whole thing, though the good news is Microsoft is already investigating the problem, so it should be fixed in the upcoming preview builds.

To do a fresh Win11 install, this worked. Use Rufus and select "Extended Win11 install (No TPM / no Secure Boot)". Partition scheme MBR.

My wife's SSD has three Win11 OS and one Win10. She uses Win10. That's ok.

Microsoft never explained why it changed the error screen to black, but, as spotted by Ars Technica, the company is rolling back that color change, with the a return to blue in a Windows 11 preview to Beta and Release Preview Channels released on Friday.

Way down its list of improvements in Windows 11 preview Build 22000.346 is a bullet point stating that: "We changed the screen color to blue when a device stops working or a stop error occurs as in previous versions of Windows." If you're lucky you'll rarely if ever get to see that particular screen, of course.

A couple of months ago, Microsoft inadvertently showed off a new media playing experience that it was working on. However, little was known about it due to the fact that only a screenshot of it had appeared online. Today, Microsoft has confirmed the existence of a new "Media Player" app for Windows 11, and it is rolling it out to those on the Dev Channel right now.

Microsoft has noted that the Media Player app will replace Groove Music on Windows 11 eventually and all existing libraries and playlists will seamlessly and automatically migrate to the new experience. Apart from that, Media Player will obviously be able to play local music and video content as well.

Last year, Microsoft released the first preview of x64 emulation for ARM64 devices to Windows Insiders. x64 emulation allowed Windows 10 ARM users to install x64 apps including apps like Autodesk Sketchbook, games like Rocket League. These apps and games benefit from having more memory when run as 64-bit emulated apps.

Today, Microsoft announced the general availability of x64 emulation in Windows 11. Yes, x64 emulation is available only on PCs running Windows 11 on ARM. Even though x64 emulation preview was available on Windows 10 on ARM devices, the final version will require Windows 11 OS.

Microsoft has started rolling out the Windows 11 upgrade to more eligible Windows 10 devices faster after not detecting update experience issues during the first rollout phases.

Microsoft released Windows 11 on October 5 and is now rolling it out to eligible Windows 10 devices via Windows Update.

"In our first phases of the Windows 11 rollout we are consistently seeing a high rate of positive update experiences and user feedback for eligible devices, identified using our latest generation machine learning model," Microsoft said this week.
"Based on this data, we are advancing the pace of the rollout faster than we originally announced, and now making the Windows 11 upgrade more broadly available to eligible Windows 10 devices."

Eligible Windows 10 devices must have compatible hardware, run Windows 10 2004 and later, and have installed at least the September 2021 servicing update or later to upgrade to Windows 11 directly.

If the Windows 11 upgrade is ready for your Windows 10 system, you will see the option to download and install Windows 11.

It would be nice if they'd work on the taskbar before deciding to accelerate their rollout. Sometimes clicking the calendar only shows the top (no I did not click the little chevron to collapse it) and the sound will toggle between mute and unmute without clicking it. The brightness also seems to reset to whatever it wants to but that is probably a driver issue. That I wish they would also fix.

Got an update (KB KB4023057) that did not require a restart nor did it change the winver, which for Beta channel, is 22000.346. This is the purpose for it. Then, a couple of hours later, got KB KB5007262 which made the Winver for Beta channel 22000.348. No changelog yet for the latter.

I've installed Windows 11, 21H2 (OS Build 22000.31) on my Lenovo E580 laptop and after a couple quirks in the beginning, it's running well for me with no issues to note. With the exception of my processor, my hardware was compatible, so I had to use a small registry hack here:

Microsoft releases KB5007262 update to bring Fluent emoji to Windows 11

This Windows 11 cumulative update is part of Microsoft's November 2021 monthly "C" update, allowing users to test the upcoming updates and fixes in the December 2021 Patch Tuesday.
Unlike cumulative updates released on Patch Tuesday, preview updates do not contain security updates and only includes bug fixes and performance improvements.
