I did a clean installation of 11 from a bootleg ISO and of c ourse it wiped everything. But via the Windows Updater, it should leave your stuff alone. Same thing if you upgrade using the Media Creation tool from your desktop and/or click "upgrade now.".

    That is awesome man!

Question: If a machine was in Dev Channel I assume there is no way to downgrade to Beta Channel correct?

Not at this point. The Dev channel moved on so if you're there you're stuck for now.

One could probably start over with a clean install of an ISO from a build supported in the Beta channel.

I'm where I want to be. We already know what we need to about the build that will be released. I have to continue to test moving forward in case something breaks with new changes. Like a couple of years ago when they were going to release the "Sets" feature with the tabbed windows. That horribly broke a lot of stuff. We made sure to complain and it was dropped. I don't claim to be responsible, at least single-handedly, but we were happy to see it scrapped.

    pb1,

I think both IFW and Macrium RDR use metadata restores. Only changed sectors are written to the target drive during the restore, so that's why it's fast. The metadata knows what has changed. In a typical restore, all sectors in use are written to the target drive whether they have changed or not since the last backup.

Unfortunately that is not an option for this specific machine at this time. Oh well, will await for final release and do a clean install.

And, what is a meta restore?
I have a 10gb C:drive, lean and mean but i can not restore it in 30 seconds even though i use macrium.

    So, what is your secret?

A metadata restore only restores sectors that have changed since the last backup. A normal restore restores all sectors in use.
I use NVMe to NVMe so that has to be faster.

An IFL metadata restore of Win11 took 6 seconds. An IFL non metadata restore of Win11 took 21 seconds. IFL is faster than IFW, IFD, IFU.
I've only done one test with Macrium RDR and Win11. It took 24 seconds to restore my Win11.

    pb1,

You mentioned you have a 10gb C:drive. I assume your data is 10gb in a somewhat larger partition. My Win11 contains 17gb of data. I didn't realize it was so much.

    Image size is 8gb.

No, using VMware Professional. I actually found out I could virtualize a TPM with it so I am good to go now.

That moving of the taskbar was never of interest to me. Of course except when it became necessary due to some Program GUI hogging the screen. What likely could be of other interest is if the taskbar ICONS could be deviated away from center margin and see an option to shift it to the Left near Start Menu or back to the old default right side. Just a thought.

Well, for me personally, I would like to have the Taskbar positioned at the top again. Others maybe prefer on the extreme left and right of the screen. I'm finding I have to adapt and compromise more of my preferences in W11, way more than when Windows 10 came out.

Not a lot of flexibility on Microsoft's part--makes me a little wary. :cautious: It's sort of like imposing a 1:00 am curfew when you used to have the freedom to go out whenever you wanted.

I don't mind the taskbar at its default position but the lack of options feels lazy. Windows 10 was pretty crude when it released so I am hoping they add some options after they release it and more people complain.

It's sure many feel the same way and for good reason. They (Micro) could at least offer multiple options of both taskbar & icon margin as not to burden user's with yet another expectation of feeling like they are stuck with a single instance of that proposed change as permanent.

Well of course I tried System Restore, but it already goes wrong with the images that it made. And like I said, this stuff is probably only fixable with a system imaging or restore tool. It seems that UWP apps are damaged quite severly on my system.

I do have to stay that the PC reset option is pretty good, it takes a while and removes all software, but at least it does repair Windows correctly and it doesn't touch the Downloads and Documents folders, so it saves you time. Of course it's probably still a good idea to backup the most important data anyway.

I expect there will be a manual way to initiate the upgrade when it is available. I expect many will if for nothing else than to have something to do.
