    its called "8gadgetspack"
    http://8gadgetpack.net/

and microsoft abandoned those because high risky use = vulnerable - and you asked about telemetrie locking while using (or want using) vulnerable software? kidding?

classic shell has nothing to do with security, its an alternative start menu, the latest v3 (current v4) was release as open source and free to view for all. if there has been a backdoor some would have been found it.

Thank you, and no im not kidding, im learning, and taking your reply's seriously. I will be removing 8gadgetspack now that you have pointed it out. Is there any program that you can recommend as a replacement? Id really like to keep a permanent cpu/ ram usage meter if possible?

cpu usage meter has helped me catch a " runtime broker" issue that makes my cpu go crazy every few months, I have to reset a certain value from a 3 to a 4, seems to be a windows 10 glitch. Id never know unless i had the meter, also I found Utorrent had added something funky on my PC that was making my i7 go into overdrive once in a blue until i removed the whole Utorrent program. I see CPU usage meter as a successful security tool personally. Ive scanned, every 8gadgetpack file with my Bitdefender and its come up clean. Im using Sticky notes, on/ off desktop switch, weather, and clock. can you PLEASE explain how im exposing myself by using these, or by simply having 8gadgetpack on my PC?

    Thanks

vulnerable has nothing to do with the sites - gadgets themselves are a vulnerable software. gadgets did not only survived due that up to windows 8, they were also replaced thru apps.
    https://www.google.de/search?q=gadgets vulnerable cve
    from the 8gadgets site/faq
    what i told you

for the other stuff i dont have anything, i dont need such tools, all running fine here.

Hey Mood, thanks for the clear, understandable, non conceited reply, the links were helpful too. Its hurts to lose the cpu usage meter, Do you know of another program I could use to keep such a useful tool on my desktop? thank you.

I use both the old clock and CPU / RAM meter on my Win10 machines and because they don't access the internet I find it hard to believe I am at any greater risk. That said, I do have layers of protection in place. I have uninstalled all non-Microsoft Gadgets as well.

What Brummelchen failed to quote from http://8gadgetpack.net/

So it is really up to you. Use at your own risk.

Hey Krusty!! glad you chimed in. So you DO have 8gadgetspack installed on your machine? and you're only using clock and cpu ram meter from 8gadgetspack? if so how about sticky notes? I do notice to asks me to allow an update from time to time could that allow formy notes to be read or info I keep there to go somewhere its shouldn't? . IF I could keep those 3 and lose the weather app id be real happy.

Sorry to beat a dead horse but its breaks my heart to lose an app I love so much as an overclocker PC/builder enthusiast, and like I said I have only been made aware of certain problems on my PC in the past because I saw CPU meter revving way high on Idle. CPU meter to ME IS indeed a layer of protection. I trust your insight and I noticed certain other folks come on here to annoy others and or to vent on those that may be simply learning.

I have it installed ever since it came out without issues. I currently have it installed on my Windows 10 Pro x64.

Yes I have 8gadgetpack installed. To be safe I would definitely stick to only using MS Gadgets, which rules out the Weather Gadget as the one that came with Win7 stopped updating years ago. At least I wouldn't use any third-party Gadgets.

I have NEVER been prompted to allow ANY updates. That sounds suspicious to me. :cautious:

I can live without sticky notes, and yes it was actually asking for an update today. Its no longer in use on my PC.

Thanks Triple Helix, makes me feel better!

The 8gadgetspack site says it works on W11. I have it on W10 now for years.
