Got a "Happy Holidays from Winpatrol" email today with the announcement:

    "WinAntiRansom Released Today!
    Declare WAR on Ransomware!
That's right, we are officially releasing WinAntiRansom today!"

    https://www.winpatrol.com/WinAntiRansom/

I've got it running in a Windows 10 test system as "Not licensed" as it completed the install without prompting for any registration data. I'm not sure how it's running, as a trail or not-Plus or whatever.

It won't let me enter either my WinPatrol or WinPrivacy license. Hey, ya never know.

I haven't watched the video yet, but it seems to be a file/folder protection app, there's nothing wrong with that, but it's not a true behavior blocker.

Some of the documentation pages are still Not Found, but it looks like they're working on 'em. Because... "When WinAntiRansom is first installed, nothing is active because it isn’t registered." Nothing during the download or install or in the UI indicates that at all, nor is it given prominence in their docs or products page.

So, no free partial protection version and no trial. Uninstalled.

    Greetings/Happy Holidays!

"PREEMPTIVE STRIKE" not sure myself. My we can write their support?
    And post their answer!
All have security software have limitations! And WinAntiRansom has not
    fully mature yet!

    Kind regards,

Preemptive Strike is just the title of the Alert box that appears when a block occurs. The protection is behavior based and totally independent of definitions.

Within the alert box itself will be the nature of the block- examples would be a blocked access to LSARPC for some Cryptowall variants, denial of access to csrss for Troldesh. For some ransomware classes like Tesla currently you'll get an "Error Receiving Description" currently. This will be corrected and is rather inconsequential as the malware is stopped.

    Hope that helped.

I hope they target all threats in the wild with their BB, and not only Crypto-Malware. I know they cover more than just Crypto-malware now, but their main focus is on Crypto-Malware at the moment. I would love to see a good stand-alone BB.

I also forgot to mention: the proof that the protection is non-definition based is that I wrote an encryptor specifically for the Ransomware series (the Santa Hat in the video), so it is certainly zero-day and was stopped nicely.

Thanks for the feedback, if it's pro active based, I think the performance is quite good.

Thanks, I must have missed this. However, it's not clearly explained if it's really pro active based or not. The developer should make this clear IMO.

It depends on your needs. MBAE will block exploits, what is the primary method of delivery of ransomware. But if you download ransomware yourself, I would still advise extra protection. It's not clear to me if it's a one year license or not, this should really be made clear.

well I decided to buy it for the special holiday offer. I used the old winpatrol years ago with the tiny dog icon. I like this icon much better:)

I now see that there is indeed a link to a lifetime license for all Ruiware apps on the homepage, so either I missed it, or the site has been updated.

I am still seeing one thing on my system. when I click on check for updates my edge browser opens and when I click on the download button nothing happens. if I copy and past the url in IE I can then download the file. thanks for getting rid of that upgrade button on paid versions, when I clicked on that the program just froze

The product comparison is nice, does it really crush CryptoPrevent and HitmanProAlert? Then I guess it's time to buy a lifetime licence. :geek:

Seems like the website has been updated, I didn't see the comparison before. But compared to HMPA, only the SafeZone feature is an added bonus, it's basically file/folder protection.

I would check its stability on your system first before purchasing as a number of users have reported their systems freezing up (they apparently have a 15-day trial mode now).

If you like it you can use a coupon code Take20Now, which gives a 20% discount (valid until 31st January). You should be bug free eventually with a lifetime license :isay:
