    Hi all!

I would like to ask whether is possible for a goverment agency to trace a wifi user.

Let's say that I connect to the net from my home using a free municipal Wi-Fi hot spot (not registered to my name or anynone else's).

Since I live in a rather oppressive country, sooner or later, the bad guys will be out to get me.

Will they be able to trace me? Has it ever happened before? And if so, how easily?

    Thank you! :D

They could trace you if you were currently connected by using directional intennas and trying to locate where the source of the wireless signal was originating from. So don't steal wireless, just get your own. You could possibly endager someones life by blocking their VoIP so they can't call 911, then the person dies since the ambulance doens't come. It is serious, so don't do it.
