In this the latest ESS release thread Marcos writes:

"The new version can be installed over older versions to preserve settings. However, we recommend uninstalling the previous version prior to installing the latest one."

Why do ESET recommend their users to go through the hazzle of exporting settings, uninstalling, reinstalling and then import the settings again?

Is upgrading = possibility of more problems in the future compared to a "cleaner" install (with import/export)

    Thanks!

They do not state you must do that but recommend it,

I got issues when I tried to import my settings for FW, I edited/deleted them all apart from Torrent Clint (PIA to set up) and this fixed it next time I installed I only had to import it.
