Is it to reinstall if your computer is badly wiped out? What if you download only and your hard drive melts or is stolen by aliens? Do you have to buy another download?

    Thanks

No , it is made for marketing and for more money . Some people buy the CD because it is cool - understand - for marketing . All AV vendors including ESET when they sell you a CD , it will always contain outdated product since AVs should develop. All you need is a licence code (username or product key) and the very latest version downloaded from the Internet (servers of the AV vendor).

If your hard drive or OS stops working and you need to reinstall the OS for no matter reason , you don't have to buy another copy if your licence is still valid/active. You just re-download the very latest version from the AV vendor's web site (in this case www.eset.com/download) and install it . You don't need a CD , all you need is just the licence.

Well, you could make a rescue disc for your system to hopefully prevent reinstalls, if something were to go that out of whack, but most advanced users won't let that happen no matter what the malware is. For instance. NOD32 clearly missed a file infected with the TDSS rootkit, letting it on through, but I saw it.

    Hello,

Some people like to buy a physical package for their software with a CD and printed documentation. Once you have activated your license, you can download the software from ESET's web site.

If you ever lose the license, you can have it re-sent using the Retrieve License Details page on ESET's web site. You do need to re-enter the credentials in order to download the software, and again when installing it for the first time.

For undetected malware, please email a copy to the virus lab at samples@eset.sk, along with any information you feel relevant (where malware came from, if known; location found on computer; operating system version and service pack level; and so forth).

    Regards,

I would never buy an Antivirus and use the CD, I always prefer to download the latest version from the vendor's website ;)
