when I replaced my cisco router/firewall with one with semi-decent reporting, I was gob-smacked at the probes being knocked back, from russian port scanners (300,000+ scan in 24 hours) to a dDoS via DNS reflection - it was no wonder that the internet connection seemed to slow to a crawl. Thankfully, the new appliance isn't blinking and the connection is rock solid, albeit I've had a ton of configuration for various services which weren't recognized out of the box.
