I consider these two to be the greatest actors of all time. I thought maybe you could vote, and tell me who YOU think think is the best.

Agree, but Hanks has a range that Olivier either never chose to show, or never had the opportunity.

That is where we disagree. I have never really cared for hanks acting. Wallace berry could out act him anyday I even believe that Michael t Weiss is better than hanks but that is just my personal opinion.

Oops! I opened to your post and didn't see "up there".

I think you have good choices in your poll but too limited.

Lawrence Olivier is acknowledged to be one of the best all time actors.

I can think of several that rate very high, Tom Hanks being among them.

Robert Duvall seems to morph into the role he is playing.

There are many others to my way of thinking.

... I like Morgan Freeman (Seven, Shawshank Redemption, Lean on Me, Outbreak), Denzel Washington (Fallen, Devil in a Blue Dress, Courage under Fire, Training Day, Philadelphia). As my fav's ... some of my fav movies from them in brackets.

From your list I'd go with Tom Hanks without a doubt ... I didn't care much for his earlier days ... but he been on a roll for about the last 8yrs or so ... and can play any role ... even a one man show ... like Castaway or what ever it was called ... His good performances ( Philadelphia , Saving Private Ryan , Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, Castaway, Band of Brothers) the bad ( Big, Splash, Turner & Hooch, League of Their Own)

Best single career performance - Edward Norton (The Score)

You are digging deep for Berry. I've seen a lot of old movies, but I do not remember him. As for Weiss, I never watch anything on commercial TV to comment.

Wallace berry was able to play the loveable slob like no other I have ever seen with a child like reasoning he could captivate you from start to finish of a movie.

Yes, I recall him now. I remember him playing Long John Silver. I will have to tell my TiVo to record some of his movies.

I saw Jack Pallance play Long John Silver once. It was aweful.

Jack palance was a good actor but I think he was limited to what he played. He played dracula in one movie. It actually wasn't to bad.

OH god, actors, there are many *greats*.

It's like asking who was the best boxer, tyson, ali, robinson, etc. etc.

But I am surprised no one has mentioned:

SIR ANTHONY HOPKINS.. I love that guy. ~....., do you hear it, the silence..... ~
Robert Duvall as Ron said I like a lot.
    Brian Denehy
    Jack Nicholson

man... I would get cramps from typing all the ones I like.

Even some of the *small bit* actors I love, as their roles are crucial to a good plot/story line and they don't get the recognition they deserve IMO.

    TAS

PS: Sir Lawrence Olivier: "Is it Safe? Is it?" zzzzzZZZzz... ouchies, I felt that sitting watching. Could almost smell the enamel burning!!!

LOL>... god I loved that line.

Name the movie [hint] it also starred another great actor now when he was a "kid".
