If you could only use two malware defense products which two would they be and how would you employ them? Which in real-time, which on_demand?

I use two mainly for defense, Online Armor AV+ and ProSecurity HIPS. Both active and fully enabled. :D

I think if I was only gonna have two it would be SSM and Returnil, using a non IE browser.

    Sandboxie and Returnil realtime.

Sandboxie also works as an outbound firewall and seems to pass most if not all those leaktests over at Matousecs.

Returnil is active in case SB is ever breached.

Doubt if you could get better protection considering the size of the installs and such little resource usage in comparison to more conventional methods.

Lean, mean, clean and complete zero day protection.

At least it seems that way atm.;)

    Prevx 2
    Comodo BO Clean

    Both real time.

However, the question is a bit pointless since there is no reality to the proposed scenario.

    dja2K,
Are these 2 able to run without causing you any problems?
    Sounds like an unbeatable combo.

Have to second the SandboxIE & Returnil combo. Excellent tandem especially when overseeing FD-ISR snapshots = 10.

If I didnt use a Limited User Account I would use Prevx2 or Comodo Firewall (I havent decided yet :) ).
I consider FDISR as a antimalware app so that would be my second app.

Yep been running them both without any problems whatsoever. They compliment each other nicely.

Provided my system is already behind a physical firewall, I'd choose SSM as real time HIPS and AVIRA (Antivir) as on demand antivirus scanner.

    Light solution, simple, efficient.

I never manage to get any security problem - it almost gets boring being so completely protected ;)

    Cheers

On XP Online Armour free and DefenseWall

On Vista 32 ThreatFire free and returnil free

On Vista 64 PRSC and HauteSecure with UAC

Only when behind a hardware firewall (preferably a Nat + SPI)
