I don't backup the registry. It is included in an OS image.

But TeraByte Unlimited's savereg.tbs will fully backup a running Windows registry.

I don't see the advantage backing it up separately from an OS image, other than individual entries I may restore some time in the future. That I use regedit for.

Restoring the entire registry without the rest of the system sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

    hi hqsec
but backup the registry and restore via image is less fast and to restore to have to restore the image , it takes time
under xp i was able to backup it in few seconds

savereg.tbs is in the scripts folder of TBOSDT. (Pro)

restoreg.tbs is for an offline restore.

They certainly work. I did a backup and then deleted two registry hives. Win8 didn't load. I restored the registry backup and all is OK.

But like the others have said, an image backup is safer.

I get my system image restored in 5 minutes. Restoring only registry keys without all file changes can IMO cause problems.

ERUNT will work on Win7/8, but UAC has to be disabled before restoring. You might
want to take a look at RegBak which is similar to ERUNT.
