Hi, I was wondering what desktop Ubuntu users are using for day-to-day use, and what the reasons are for their choice!?

I'm personally quite content with Unity, look-wise but also because it seems to be the one that operates best and fastest; I also sometimes use Gnome, 'cause I like the looks - but dislike the ever shrinking icons when adding items to the launcher, and I also see that Firefox display is somewhat slowed down on Gnome; KDE I do not like, I find it to be much too heavy, and way too complicated [bloated!?]; and finally, I'm currently giving Cinnamon a run - looks nice with the tiling workspaces effect and the simple menus...

I think that, when being asked to install Linux on friends' computers in the future, I'll go along with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Cinnamon desktop. Albeit I prefer Unity, I think ex-Windows-uers-to-be would operate more naturally with Cinnamon.

Does Linux Mint XFCE count as a derivative, or Ubuntu-only?

I don't know but being a LM16 Cinammon user which is based off of Ubuntu, I voted accordingly.
