Corruption is everywhere concerning reviews of all kinds of software, goods, and services on the internet... where do you go for reviews that you can trust that they arent payed for, or otherwise influenced?
I read reviews on Amazon. I use Fakespot, which does its best to filter out fake reviews and gives an adjusted rating. If Fakespot gives a product a good rating, I read the 1, 2 and 3 star reviews, as it's a good way to find out about problems with a product. The negative reviews are usually honest ones. I use the Fakespot Chrome extension. I used to use the ReviewMeta one too, but at the moment it seems that Fakespot is doing a much better job of filtering fake reviews. There are many products on Amazon for which Fakespot gives a rating similar to the original rating, whereas Reviewmeta drops a few stars. When I read some of the negative reviews it seems that the rating Reviewmeta gives is more accurate.
Maybe not. Like you, I always read the negative reviews (1 star) & I have noted a lot of similar words and phrases in some of them. It seems that some products not only obtain falsely positive (4 star & 5 star) reviews, but also cause falsely negative reviews to be posted on competing products.
That certainly happens too and Fakespot will say if it suspects that it is happening. Usually I don't find it too hard to tell if a review is genuine or not, based on the how it is written.
