Hi i was wondering if anyone knows where i can download in full, the new version of SP2 that came out on friday last week.

Its just i have dialler popups installed on my computer (as you can see from my unaswered post in the security section) so what i want to do is reformat my hard drive and then immediately install SP2 (hoping that that will stop them from coming back, as for some reason now as ive finished formatting and as soon as a reconnect to the internet they come immediately back, as soon as AOL is installed (PC world say they have my IP or ISP address or something)).

But all i can find it is on the microsoft update and automatic update, which downloads the update directly down to your computer. And for this i would need an internet set up to do it (which i want it installed before i install AOL).

I know there are the old downloads available of SP2 which are 250mb big each. But i read on microsoft page them saying dont use them no more as the new versions that are approx 120-150 will be further updated than those 250 mb things.

So does anyone know where i can get a full download of the new updated versions of SP2. And also is there any way of telling if the SP2 i will be using is the new updated version or the old one, except of course by looking at its size

Thanks, I apreciate any help you can give

I have finished ordering the CD and it should be shipped within 4 weeks. If you cannot wait, download the 90-200mB download and burn to disc. If restricted to dial-up, ask one of your cable friends to do this for you.

The best way to get SP2 is by turnin' on your automatic updates feature in Windows XP.

Go through Win Update for it, it'll see what you need -- if you already have SP1 installed and critical updates up to date, it sounds like typical download is 80 to 90 megs. That 265 megs is primarily if you've got XP newly installed right out of the box and/or otherwise haven't bothered keeping it up to date.

the following is a recommend by a guru who did beta testing on SP2 ,,,.....

I have beta tested SP2 for several months and highly recommend waiting at least a month or two before downloading.

I would recommend to your friend to do a "clean install" before installing SP2.

There are still problems with SP2 especailly on the Security side. Yesterday a German Security Company found 2 - New Holes in SP2.

    http://www.heise.de/security/artikel/50051]

Mircosoft has always maintained the new security system in SP2 is not the B-all-of secuirty systems.

I use a third party Security System. I have disabled Microsoft's security system.

For future reference your friend might want to bookmark this on troubleshooting the Security System.

Unless you are a IT Professional I highly recommend not to download from the IT site.

This download is for IT to "test" their system before passing it on throughout their company.

    "There are still problems showing"

i am waiting for the CD - am in no hurry and will instal after reading about issues others are experiencing. Cheers :)
