    Hello,

Some friends want me to download whatsapp and i am concerned with how my details are used by the company to make the app pay. With facebook now in charge of the app I am even more concerned.

Is there anything that can be done to secure whatsapp via its settings or some other security app on android.

What are the privacy concerns regarding the app.
For instance can they sell my mobile phone number and other details to 3rd partys?

I suppose there isnt a third party app that can be on the whatsapp network?
Rather like msn chat used to be emulated in chat apps in years gone by.

    thanks for your time

I ahve no idea what their privacy policy says, but I've used WhatsApp for ages and I've never in my entire life been contacted by a company on there. In fact, no company has ever called my phone, ever.

They can't read your messages, which IMO is what's the most important feature of all.

While companies may not contact you through the app facebook/whatsapp have your phone number which could be sold on.

i'm afraid that's not possible. but you can use telegram which is an open source sw. the only caveat is you must encourage your friends to use it too.

Their servers aren't open source though. And chats are only E2E encrypted if you use Secret Chat, which is not available for the official desktop client for Windows.
