After development of MPC-HC ended, I switched to VLC.
Also the new version 1.7.18346 can be installed on Windows XP.
I stay with Potplayer.
Splash from mirillis.
MPCHC is regulary updated, and it didnt stoped.. One member of the old team is still ad it and updates it, CLSID..
PS, theres also MPCBE wich is also very good and tries to innovate on it..

Yes I know of "unofficial build" I just prefer to use software with more people working on it.

macOS: QuickTime Player, VLC, and trying out IINA (macOS specific but "powered by" mpv).
Windows: Windows Media Player, VLC.
(For those hating on QT on Windows, it's actually pretty good on macOS, imho. Complaining about QT on Windows would be like complaining about WMP on macOS if Microsoft chose to write one for it.)
I always thought QT for Windows was pretty good. It would play anything on Vista when most other media players had codec problems. I use QT 99.9% of the time on macOS. IINA looks interesting. I'm guessing it's a bit like SMPlayer?
Windows: mpc-be +LAVFilters.

VLC in a Win PC
Mac I have better options
At the moment on my main computer, I'm just using the Movies & TV app that is included with Windows 10. It's not my favourite video player, but I usually watch videos online on my Android TV Box or PS3, rather than on my PCs, so I rarely use a video player these days.
im using (since the 90s) jetAudio as my default video player: its an integrated audio and video player.
Was using SMPlayer, back to VLC.
VLC is what I use to open video files I click on, but when I want to watch something I use Kodi, formerly known as "XBMC" All sandboxed of course. You never know when you might accidentally get a video file that was just disguised malware....When you click on the video that is.
Whenever it was, first vote was for MPC-HC, now it's MPC-BE - specifically for the dual audio output.
(was PotPlayer and GomPlayer in the years prior)
MPV on Debian. It has great video quality and supports hardware acceleration.
