I was happy to see the new release but this happiness only lasted until I found this annoying bug ..

After install, i disabled the "Email protection" and "Web access protection" as I didn't really need them. But as soon as I restart and come back, these protection get enabled automatically .. why so? o_O

What I am missing here? Or I should wait ESET reps come here and tell me its not bug, its by design?

Looks like a bug to me. Changing those settings don't survive a restart. Probably not noticed before since most users don't disable those features.

After you un-check "Email protection" and select Ok, does Nod immediately issue a popup warning and\or change the Nod tray icon yellow ?

If not, the next question would be does this Windows user have Administrative rights ?

On this 3.0.621 installation with Admin rights, if I make that type selection Nod tells me it needs attention. In fact, on re-boot it advises me again also.

Attempting it with a limited user Windows account appears to adhere to the selection but since it can not write to the HK_Local_Machine portion of the registry, it's not holding that selection, which is normal.

I have administrator rights and still have the problem. When I look at HKLM, the only profiles I see are associated with scanners. HKLM->software->Eset->Eset Security->Current Version->Scanners->01010100->Profiles , etc.

Then for some it's an issue and can only hope Eset has noticed this. It also could be that for some users they have other protection interferring with writing to the Local_Machine portion of the registry.

I'm also seeing profile information in HKLM under Plugins->Profile->@My Profile, but there are no fields containing the state of email or web protection.

Yes, I do see that yellow msg and tray icon converts from green to yellow/orange.

And yeah, I am logged in with admin rights.

Thanks for trying to help :)

    Same here.

    Re: New version 3.0.621 available

I disabled Email and Web protection, but it enables them again after reboot. Anyone have any idea why?

ESET addressing this by any chance?

No, I'm not facing this problem - incidentally, I keep my 'Web access protection' & 'Email protection' disabled, too.

Have tried this on an 'install over 5.0.566' as well as 'clean re-install' - all configurations seem to stick after reboot.

With me it is the Web access protection that is turned back on after a reboot. The Email protection stays disabled.

:) Perhaps he's got a better 'SPAM Filter' and 'Script' to protect him at the online level and anyways, the multi-layered 'Real-time file system protection' of NOD32 keeps him protected at at his system level. :)

In my case, I had purchased MailWasher Pro, a long time ago and hence keep my 'Email protection' and 'POP3' disabled. I employ 'NoScript' addon in conjunction with Firefox and hence keep 'Web access protection,' and 'HTTP' disabled.

Personally, I find the above standalone utilities much more faster and configurable than the 'Email protection,' 'POP3,' 'Web access protection' and 'HTTP' features that are built into NOD32 V3.
