x-base is actually for very experienced users only; by design it's bound to pop up many false positives and it's up to the user to decide which flagged files are perfectly safe and which aren't.

    regards.

Yeah I know but I use KAV as an last scanner on the list of scans when I peform and infection clean up on a users PC. MY kav is on my laptop so I just connect the laptop to the users PC via a crossover cable, share their LocalDrives with all permissions and scan the LocalDrivers via my laptop by employing KAV Manual Scan. But I do this after I've scanned the system with NOD32 (laptop) and TDS-3 (Laptop). That way KAV will find whatever is left over (if any) and the reason for a widerange of detection is...if there are anything left over at least I will be able to see what is what and where it's located. Then I can manually go to that directory and look at the file myself.

    tempnexus,

...in that case, consider yourself an experienced user ;). My comment has been an overall one; those not that experienced better should stay away from x-base.

    regards.

updates_ext are extended signature files, for a more advanced level of detection.
updates_x is the ultimate paranoid database update option available for even more
security concious people. Use them at your own risk, and follow Paul's advice.

ftp://downloads1.kaspersky-labs.com/updates_ext/ this is the FTP link for the extended database.

ftp://downloads1.kaspersky-labs.com/updates_x/ and this is the FTP link for the supersecure database.

as the later name suggests its the most secure database option. but its bound to create false alarms. if you ask me then i'll use the extended database. its capable of detecting RATs, key-loggers, password stealers, dialers and adwares. switching to supersecure database will give you these plus detection capabilities of patches, cracks, keygens, jokewares, port scanners, nukers, virus SIMs, malicious JAVA classes and malwares. you can see that by safe and ethical computing habits you can eliminate the need of supersecure database. so if you need to combat adwares and those malicious LKMs or something like that, you'll need the extended database.

    happy hunting
