What to install? Java 6 or Java 7?

    They are both being updated, shall I install Java 6 or Java 7?

    some sites I visit require Java but I am confused which one to go for

    If you must, then Java 7. According to Oracle, 7 has enhanced performance,stability and security and some other improvements.If your going to use java,my suggestion would be always use the latest providing its stable.

    I run 7 on everything that will allow it. At work, we have a government site we have to use and it won't work with 7. So it's 6 for stuff at work...

    Definitely 7. It supports newer TLS and drops support for some insecure hash functions.

    For security reasons I would not install either, unless you have a program or websites that require it. I uninstalled Java and have yet to have anything requiring it.
