Okay, here's the deal. I'm getting a 1TB SSD. It has hardware encryption meaning I can encrypt the drive with no lag in OS operations. My computer came with a 256GB m2 SSD with no hardware encryption. I want to encrypt my OS without using software encryption which will cause lag (small, but noticeable when doing complex calculations like file compression). Now the question: what do I use my 256GB for? Storage?; Linux (will I have issues with Secure Boot?); turn off its SATA port?; use it as a OS backup or drive image storage? What are your advices? Thanks.
Larry, Depending on the brand, a M.2 NVMe SSD can be up to 6 times faster than a standard SSD in read/write speeds. I have two M.2 SSDs and I use the second one for image backups. There are no issues.
I use my second SSD to put my virtual machine files on it and also to backup important data (temporary backup performed each day).
I would have gone with the image backups. Disk image storage in the same machine may be ok if your OS ***** itself, but in the event of fire/burglary or nuclear ***, you no longer have a backup.
