I tried several music programs... but was impressed and got hook on using iTunes from Apple Computer. It is very cool, easy to use, super high quality music burning, recording and production and I really felt like a DJ using it and the best part was that it’s free. What’s yours? :D

I use Media Player Classic w/ Quicktime and Real Alternative.
It plays WMP (it uses the WMP codecs installed on XP), QT (Quicktime Alternative) and Real formats (" ")
Plays everything, it is fast, simple without all the uneccesary features - all it does is play audio and video, nothing else.

It is the only multimedia player I have on this machine and will ever need.

Personally, I like MusicMatch (using version 10). Good quality, easy to use, nice GUI, and haven't had any problems thus far....

    Good enough for me ;)

for playing music from my collection, nothing beats Beoplayer from Bang&Olufsen. quality is excellent, but its the interface that is the best! it sorts your music to genre, artists, albums etc. Make your own playlists. it runs in the background and by moving your mouse pointer to the edges of the screen it will allow you to open the interface.
you must try it. its FREE

    ftp://ftp.beoplayer.com/beoplayer.exe

otherwise for all other things like listening to samples, WMP9

no, the one at source forge only comes with the MPC executable. its faster to just download real/quicktime-alternative and use one of them to install MPC.

thanks, WSF :) i wonder if it might be better to download the Sourceforge one, then get one of those codec packs? the last time i didn't have a codec i used Winamp, it said it needed to get a new codec to play the file and went and got it by it self :D it could have been ffdshow for divx o_O anyway, i can play all my downloads without problems.

there's one thing though, i'm sure i can't play quicktime within my broswers. i can if i download the file. and the reason i always thought this happened is becase every time you update your browser you have to reinstall the "alternatives" for the new browser to see them., or something else.

OK i'm dim. it's the plugins isn't it? i hadn't ever given it any thought before now because it never bothered me :[ i'll get the plugins. what are they called in Opera plugins?

i suggest u use the FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder along side both real/qt alternative. or if u want something more beefy with more decoder try The Combined Community Codec Pack tho i suggest u try fddshow first as it should be enough. also check real/qt alternative settings to see if theyre enabled for ur browser, i know that quicktime has seperate file type associations for the player and teh browser.
