    Aside from numerous clerk-typist positions in my earliest days, my "career" took some interesting twists and turns.

    Patent law, specifically handling applications, from "both sides of the fence", an examiner's aide for a few years in the US Patent Office and a few more as an assistant in patent attorneys' offices. I think I can still recite most of 35 USC 103 from memory :cool: ;

    Purchasing assistant for a small chemical firm (essentially the start of my bookkeeping/accounting);

    Long-distance accounts for an Allied Van agent, everything from computing broker-drivers' shares of revenue to setting up fuel-tax payments;

    And most recently, nearly 20 years as industrial accountant/computer wiz/customer service rep for a small but highly successful plastics manufacturer. Took disability retirement from that in the fall of '95 after head injury from a bad fall at home.

    And that's not counting about 6 months as a prison guard (whoops, sorry -- correctional officer). Plus about 20 years of driving taxi weekends as a second job. And there's probably a few other twists that have slipped from my admittedly less than perfect memory.
