A question I too am interested in having answered. I didn't even realize they had a free version until I was checking out the "AV of the Year" thread. I'll try to do some Google work and find out.

They had a free version many years ago that was pretty much just an on-demand scanner, no realtime protection. It wasn't updated much, and I think they just dropped the free version until recently apparently. I have no idea what's in the new free one....

I answered you in the first line. The free only includes cloud scanning, web filter and I think anti-phising. That's it. You can't schedule a full scan, quarantine, update full sigs and a few other things that the AV plus does.

Hmmm... I don't think I'd want it automatically deleting things without asking... No thanks.

No it actually doesn't. Plus has the following that I provided the link for. "no on-demand scan button, no alerts, no settings, no exclusions" was in the comodo link that you provided. As stated it doesn't include scheduled scans ( idle scans only), USB protection, safepay (safe banking), search advisor (similar to wot and safe search), social network protection (facebook filter), personal data filter (protects sensitive info IE SSN, credit cards).

Well if its detection rates are the same as the paid product, then I wouldn't mind installing it on friends' computers to substitute avast! free antivirus what do y'all think? Bitdefender have proven to be the best in detection and overall as an AV or security suite

Panda cloud has an option to restore deleted files. BitDefender free does not.

Well, great detection or not I don't see me using this. I don't care about banking mode and all that junk, but I do care about control over FPs, scans and other basic essentials. If it doesn't stay so crippled, there's an opportunity there to compete with the likes of Avast and others.

Or annoying as hell at best. They made a fantastic move by offering a free version, but they went overboard in restrictions, in my opinion at least.
