    Paragon Drive backup Express.

I am using paragon drive Backup Ppersonal, because I think the extra features are worth it, but for FREE, it seems like the bargain of the century. paragon has been 100% reliable for me for at least 2 years now under VISTA HP.

    I like Macrium Reflect.
I'm also sure that there are other free programs that are good as well.

go with macrium reflect, it has a linux bootcd and also the bartpe plugin available. The scheduler works good on it. The backups and restores are quicker than with paragon, very similar in speed with true image.I already done about 3 restores on it and it has worked quite well.

If you just want to do clones easus disk copy is another option for you.

+1 vote for Macrium Reflect. Its fast and feature packed. Their support is top-notch too. IMO, try out the free version first and if you like it move to the full version. No regrets here...

OK guys, thanks for answeres. Macrium Reflect took a fancy. It's very fast and easy to use :) I have one question about it. Can i do a partition image backup from the MR's bootcd? I don't see that option. Does it available on the free version?

Both Macrium Reflect Free and Pro version, (as of now) don't allow creation of image using Rescue CD. Only restore image functionality is available.

Looking through some Macrium-related posts and stumbled on this statement. Does Macrium's BartPE plugin also have this limitation (both free and pro versions, assuming the plugin is available in the free version as well)?

    Thanks.

From the Macrium support forum, circa 2/22/09:

....'Cold' Imaging is to be added in a future release.

    Kind Regards

I used macrium a few months back (free version) to install an image of my hard drive, using Vista. I couldn't do it. When I went to their site, I believe I read that Bart PE wasn't available for Vista, however Macrium had created their own boot cd but only available for paid version. Suffice to say, I couldn't reinstall the image. For what it's worth, I couldn't get the linux boot cd working either, hence the reason I tried using Bart PE.
