Can you explain what exactly is a HIPS program, and is it hard to understand/use?
I ask because in another thread I post my setup
    I am running:
    Nod32
    TrojanHunter
    winpatrol
    comodo fw
    spyware terminater

    I am using:
    Router fw
    spyware blaster
    firefox
    mvps hosts file

I wanted to know if I can not run spyware terminater in realtime, in fact have no anti spyware in realtime if possible, do I need a hips?

    THanks!

In this site you have a good description.

    http://www.techsupportalert.com/security_HIPS.htm

For advice I would recommend System Safety Monitor, it's the best I ever tried. But i don't think you need one, as your setup is already pretty safe.

And yes, you can run spyterminator in realtime, but i don't think it's necessary since you use nod and firefox. I'd stick with nod32, trojan hunter, win patrol and comodo.

    Hello,
If you don't know what HIPS is - don't use it.
Winpatrol is a HIPS, in a way.
Spyware Terminator also has a HIPS option.

    Hi and thanks,

I have turned off spyware terminator. I add prosecurity free, easy enough to set up and running fine so far.

    so now:
    Nod32
    TrojanHunter
    winpatrol - pro
    comodo fw
    ProSecurity - free

    Router fw
    spyware blaster
    firefox
    mvps hosts file

On Demand = AVG AS and spyware terminater

Trojan Hunter isn't cheap. If I remember, it's $40 or $50. I had it for a year and it found one trojan.

NOD probably detects more than Trojan Hunter, so no he doesn't. At least not that one.

Well, in fact you really don't need Trojan Hunter. I think that if you stick with Nod32, Comodo, and Prosecurity you will have a very safe security setup. I'd switch Comodo for Jetico v1 or Kerio 2.1.5, because I've never liked comodo, but that's just me. And if you have problems with firewall settings, than stick with comodo.

You don't need a resident antispyware if you use Firefox with NoScript, but my advice is to get Superantispyware Free and Avg Antispyware to run ocasional on demand scanners. And keep Spyware Blaster, it's a very nice app!

    Cheers!

Well, if you aren't good with firewalls, I don't recomend jetico, unless you have a lot of time available.

    Cheers

With Comodo, Pro Security, and NOD32 you are very secure. Even moreso with Firefix. You could probably do away with everything else. No need to waste resources.

When Comodo updates to V3 you may not wish to do so if you like your current security suite. Comodo V3 will have HIPS which will probably conflict with Pro Security.
