I would like to know where did Kaspersky go on download crew store since that sites have nice discounts for Kaspersky. Way much cheaper than buying from Kaspersky.

    Anyone any ideas?

I believe there is currently an ongoing license issue because of regional distribution and licensing. So you may want to keep that in mind when purchasing.

But If I use a VPN with UK IP address to activate should be no problem right?

It appears that Downloadcrew is currently selling only licenses that can be activated via an IP address in the UK or EU:

    http://store.downloadcrew.co.uk/?act=search&brand=55

Here is the issue as described by Kaspersky:

    http://support.kaspersky.com/9059

So there should be no problem activating your license if you use a VPN with an IP address in the UK or EU.

Having activated your license, I don't think there would be a problem downloading updates from an IP address anywhere in the world, since people in the UK and EU routinely travel with their notebooks outside of the region, and Kaspersky would want their software to remain updated.

Are you allowed to say more details about this- are users eligible for a free upgrade to 2014 from, say, 2012/13 (i.e what's considered an "older version")?

Would simply restoring a kaspersky image get around that problem. When i installed kaspersky i activated the product and then created an image and ive restored this image half a dozen times without the need to enter the activation code again.

[Older codes won't work in the new version, so you won't be able to pick up cheaper older versions.]

If that applies to boxed copies from prior years I will dump KIS.
I hope that is not the case. That is the way I buy most of mine when the new version comes out.

Yes, that will be a real bummer.:thumbd:
However, there are some good AVs around, and I would not be afraid of a penetration with Avast free.

Essentially all Avs are too expensive from their stores, and specials and ebay have been the way I have purchased them for years. Maybe I am just cheap, and I cannot really argue strongly that top protection is too expensive at $40 - 50 per year, considering the cost of the internet and other costs to own a computer.

Thanks for the comment. Hope all is well with you.

    Regards,
    Jerry

total bunch of bs from them. i do the same i buy the previous version to save and use for the next one. i will not longer support kaspersky and have not for a while now but imo this will be a VERY bad move for most av companies. especially for those people who buy at say staples or office depot in the usa and decide to hold off on installing them. i know A TON of people that when they offer free or almost free after rebate at local stores they go buy one to hang onto. i know i for one woud drop any av like a disease once they do this. total bs that you will not be able to upgrade to the newest version. and i agree with you i really kind of hope this discussion goes away quickly so others dont get the idea but im sure many are in talks with kaspersky and will do the same sooner or later and at that point it will be free or nothing for me.

this regional thing is just one reason why we no longer support kaspersky in my shop also.

and yes we have had many customers who bought a kaspersky from somewhere like download crew or v3 and they have a uk lic in the usa and their lic is now blocked and will no longer work here they were told by kaspersky directly.

    Which is normal because:
-it's a user forum, users don't have inside information
-even if there is inside information, it's not set in stone and can change when 2014 is actually released- which is still several months away.
So I'd suggest not buying into the whole thing and panic, but instead wait and see what comes of it.
