What exactly does the eicar test virus do if allowed to run?

    I have an expired version of prevx1. I opened an unzipped Eicar file, hoping that Prevx1's detection features would still stop the file from executing. It didn't. When I opened it, a DOS window opened, flashed, and I saw nothing in it. Is my system compromised now?

    no. it does only display a string, nothing more.
