I know we all go back and forth about what we use and why. But the one thing I do know about this site is, that there are some very astute people when it comes to knowledge and help. So taking me and lodore out of the equation,(smile), I would like to know what the mods here use, people who have been coming here as members for a long time use, just the product name. I tihnk it will be interesting to see what is used.. Thanks guys, this means a lot to me, and the lodores.:)

I don't know if i am a pro, doubt it, but i used in former times:

    1. Kaspersky (was to heavy for me)
    2. AVG

and finaly switched to NOD32. If i had to switch for some reason i would consider AVIRA.

Well, I'm not really a "longtime" member of Wilders, since I only joined January 2005 :)

But I use the following AVs at the moment:

1)NOD32 - Status on hold, waiting till version 3.0 to decide whether I should renew, even though my license lasts till mid-2007 :)

2)Dr.Web - Purchased mainly as placeholder and for comparison with Virus Chaser

3)Virus Chaser (Dr.Web engine) - Really like this one but it lacks in features somewhat and is still a bit rough around the edges :(

4)BitDefender AntiVirus Plus - Decent product, I like it, but may rather go for BullGuard when the time for renewal arrives. :)

The real av expert pros probably use the AV that they help develop or none at all.The wannabbe pros (i guess quite a lot of us fall into that group) use every av under the sun if its ahead in the latest comparative tests ,and the "not bothered" usually use AVG,avast or antivir.

Have been using computers and various antivirus programs since 1999, I currently hold three valid av licenses, F-Prot, Nod32 and Dr.Web.

Dr.Web is my current av program, I really like this one.

License holder for AntiVir Premium, Dr. Web, KAV 6, and NOD32. Currently running NOD32, my favorite.

In Windows I had used NOD; but having dropped windows completely and running only *nix I don't use anything. I've run all of the main windows Avs, and they're all quite capable - to me it just boils down to the users preference - you won't go wrong with any of main AVs. Don't worry about what someone else uses, test the products yourself and choose the one you're the most comfortable with. Generally you're just making a one year commitent, before you know its time to renew or choose a different product. So don't stress out about which is the best, they're all fairly equal - it isn't about test results or what so and so says, simply go with your preference based on your experience - don't get swallowed by the hype generated by users or the industry.

Definately NOT a pro, but I use Antivir PE (as I have for over a year), and am really enjoying its lightness.

As far as being a "Pro" goes, how do you determine who is and who isn't when it comes to using an AV or any application for that matter?

Currently using NOD32, but have also used (and frequently recommend) F-Prot, Avast and AVG, depending on the needs of the particular setup. Definitely never recommend Norton and McAfee. [shudder]
