Weird Private Message issue

    Hi There,

    I'm having a weird issue on my account. I got a notification that a new unread private message is waiting for me. It also says that I have 14 total messages. But when I go into the message center, I cannot see that unread message, plus it will only list 13 total messages.

    Can anyone help?

    While not exactly the same conditions, my reply in this thread discusses how PM counts can go wrong. It also shows how to have the forum do a recount for you.

    I've just sent you a throw away PM. If you read then delete it, the forum should recount it the total and unread count fields in the database.

    Couldn't it also be caused by sending a PM to person A and to yourself?

    I've just sent a test PM to Geosoft and myself.

    Not sure whether I'm right, but I've seen it happen before.

    Ah, interesting. Some kind of double count thing must happen when you copy yourself on a PM. I'll have to check the code for a bug like that. Thanks Jan.

    That will also be recounted once you delete any PM, or, set any back to unread state. So, people can fix the counts, if this happens to them.


    Later Update: Bug fixed. In the future, sending a copy of a PM also to yourself will no longer increment your total PM count and unread PM count twice, instead of once.

    I would hardly call it a bug, and it is easily solved by users who send a copy PM to themselves. It's not a big problem at all.
    I should have mentioned it to you in private and I apologize for not having done so. The post by Geosoft kind of triggered my reply; not sure however this was the cause of his/her issue.

    Anyway, two more screenshots:

    I had a pm discussion with Cudni about this a couple of months ago after I noticed that if you reply to a pm using a pm that is in the sent area it makes the forum think you have an unread message.

    Sorry for the delay as I was busy yesterday and today to do any replies. But I did what FanJ mentioned earlier in the thread where I PM'd a member and myself at the same time. This is probably the bug mentioned.
