I was playing with the free Webroot Desktop Firewall v.5.5 over the
weekend, and found that it seems to have same local web proxy problem as
the old Sygate. Namely, if you run a local proxy that is allowed
to access the network, then any application that uses it is never
seen by the firewall and allowed to connect outbound. Even if you
manually add the app to the application rules, and deny it network
access, it still sails right through the proxy without a peep from
the firewall. I ran it on two different XP machines, and it did the same
    on both. FYI.

    Hi FadeAway,

Yes, it does look like this firewall does not control localhost(loopback). A problem (as you mention) with another firewall, and also with Privatefirewall (although I was informed such control was to be added for the latter)

The latest version of PC Tools firewall now has loopback control.
Mike Nash had, many weeks ago, said that loopback control would also be
implemented in OA FREE version. Has this happened yet?

Does anyone use PCTools firewall instead of comodo or agnitium because of its sheer lightweight-ness.

Security neophytes will probably like it but it can be disabled via Local Area Connection Properties, you can't password protect it and their new local proxy "support" doesn't work at all.
