Warning over Optus email scam hitting inboxes across the country

Email security service MailGuard first uncovered the scam, which appears in multiple variations and uses the domain “optusnet.com.au”.
The format of the emails is very similar with the recipient told a document is available for them to download via the link provided.

Mailguard said at least two forms of the email had Google Docs hosted Word documents containing macros - small programs embedded with documents used to deliver malware to targets' computers.
Others emails included .zip files containing a malicious Javascript file.

“This email scam is a good reminder of how innocent-looking, plain emails can, in fact, be malicious, despite where they purport to be from.”
