Walmart Patents Audio Surveillance Tool to Monitor Employee Conversations July 11, 2018 https://splinternews.com/walmart-patents-audio-surveillance-tool-to-monitor-empl-1827529033
Workplace surveillance has pretty much become the norm. As has retail outlet surveillance. So I'm not at all surprised. Or really, much concerned. I mean, Walmart arguably does have rights to surveil their property, no?
I'm guessing that they want to reprimand cashiers who BS too much with customers, "wasting" time. But that seems shortsighted, in that such BS can leave customers feeling more positive about Walmart.
A work there are cameras and microphones everywhere, so watch what you do and say. Where I worked they monitored the employees more than the customers.
Goes "hand in hand" with their recent installations of self-checkout stations. If you start swearing at the scanning for screwing up, they will add an extra 10% to all future scans. They need to change their marketing slogan to - "Walmart …. Your Big Brother."
