I am using Hotspotshield on WindowsXP.
I would like to use a VPN on Ubuntu.I found this site:
ht tp://freeukvpn.com/ it says that you do not have to install any software to use this.Is it safe to use it?
I know that Open VPN is good but I do not know how to install and use it.
Can someone please help me to learn to setup and use VPN on Ubuntu.

I am looking for a simple secure connection while I am using my PC at the Starbucks.I have a dual boot laptop but I never use Windows.I want to use the VPN on Ubuntu.
Last month I got a premium account from Cyber Ghost VPN from a promotion.I know that I can use it by installing a program on windows. But my question is this:Can I use my premium account on openvpn or are they totally different.Sorry but I do not know anything about networks.

    hello cet

what Cyber Ghost and Hotspotshield providing you is 1st Web Anonymously + vpn

what happen here is ghost server act as mediator between your pc and internet so what you search 1st connect between your pc and ghost server in vpn form (encrypted connection) if any hacks between connection breaks also cannot sniff data due to encryption between you and that ghost server now for there it also act as proxy sever it search internet on his servers ip's giving information you (ie. Web Anonymously) so real site never know who is serving and from where

for example your ip address of your computer is {external ip (ISP ip address)} 213.179.147.226 then connect to Ip 84.19.168.235 (which is in germany ghost server) then from there you surf to net

    http://cyberghostvpn.com/templates/cg2011/img/en/screens/cyberghost-anonym.png

so site you connect get that ghost server ip address not yours and

between your pc and ghost they make a vpn (virtual private network)

ie in simple words a virtual pipe where data flow in encrypted form share between your pc and ghost server

sorry i try to make it as simple as i can

may be i in technically terms its not 100% correct

but in simple way thats the way they work :p

    more on vpn and anonymously

    http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/how-to-tech/how-to-surf-the-web-anonymously1.htm

    http://computer.howstuffworks.com/vpn.htm

also what purpose you using it for

for just surfing anonymously its a good deal

but for banking credit card online translation .......etc many factors are important on net security including the reliability of server which act as mediator
