If you use the paid version, so that you can disable parent/child permissions, and you don't run VS in autopilot, then those silent program updates should start speaking up.

If you whitelisted the executable, though?

Most programs update from the User space Appdata/Local/Temp or from ProgramData so VS would alert. But I have notice that Windows Update and Office 2016 updates in the Background and most times it's still silent in Smart mode (No Notification). So I'm wondering now? Maybe @VoodooShield can explain more on this. As we know Windows Update uses Windows/SoftwareDistribution Folder and I assume Office uses either Program Files or Program Files (x86) and depends what version of Office you install x86 or x64.

Good point about the way most programs update. VS automatically disables parent/child permissions for those sensitive areas, if I understand right.

Thanks for the info! I have Windows update locked down in group policy editor, and do not use MS Office, so those are not at issue for me.

I generally uncheck an application's setting for "Check automatically for updates" if available. But some app developers seem to think that they are doing me (or them) a big favor by keeping me up to date with the latest version without my participation. I am reluctant to hack the registry to defeat these guys, so was hoping that there was a way to intercept these at launch.

So assuming that I could do this, it sounds as if it would need to remain in training mode to accomplish this. And if I allowed an update to proceed, would it then become whitelisted, so no further alerts would be given?

Does VoodooAi 0.90 access the current VS Ai engine, or does it access the old one that existed at that time?

Real quick... VS tries not to block any Windows, Office or other updates, but only if it can do so safely.

It is difficult to guess what happened with the Vivadi update, but it should tell you in the DeveloperLog why it was allowed... but there is certainly a good explanation either way.

VoodooAi 0.90 used the old engine / models.

VS blocks LAV Splitter which is part of the K-Lite Mega Codec pack without giving an option to allow it. VS tray icon blinks when it blocks it, but fails to give a prompt despite being configured to give the user a prompt. VS does not log blocking it either. I'm using Windows 10 X 64 Professional.

I see, thank you for reporting that... yeah, VS is blocking a command line but not showing a prompt. It will be an easy fix and included in the next version. For now, you can just put VS in Training or Smart OFF and it will learn the command line.

Try it, and tell us if VS did what you wanted it to. As you can see from all the discussion here, program updates are a complex subject, and behavior is not 100% predictable.

Based on the feedback received, which I really do appreciate, VS appears to have too many "ifs" regarding use as I intended to control updaters. I may play around with it in a VM at some point, but at this point I will keep looking for another solution. Thanks again all! :thumb:

HP supply Cyberlink Power Media Player for my PC and I hardly ever watch DVDs on it but am today and notice when in full screen mode the VS gadget doesn't display. I guess similar to the YouTube videos in Edge. Not a major issue, just an FYI.

    Cheers!

I have no issues watching YouTube video full in edge, but do often have issues in 360 Extreme Explorer.

The only issue is that in full screen mode the VS gadget doesn't display
Yeah, gotcha. I've just installed VLC on one of my laptops last night. Maybe that's a better choice?

Mine as well and I like Macgo free Media Player. Has a simple and uncluttered interface.

Well, that's weird. I just went back to the DVD and the VS gadget is showing in full screen mode.

Sorry, Dan. My eyes must need an alignment. :D

    Hey Krusty, how ya doin,
If you get a chance look into GOM Player, I use it exclusively, it may suit your needs.
Just a "heads up". Many config options as well ;)

    Hi there,
Today I installed VoodooShield (freeware), did my homework reading the "owners manual"... and everything looks easy and great.
Before installing, I ensure my computer was clean.
However, my only concern is with the "Whitelist" / "User log"... I don't have enough knowledge to distinguish what to allow, what to block. I even couldn't copy these two lists, in order to ask somebody else. So, my simple question is: How I can check that are safe the files in my "Whitelist"/"User log"?
    Thanks!
