Hi Cache, I wasn't concerned because I knew what VS is supposed to do. I just didn't know what Microsoft was trying to do, surprising me like that.
If you don't like W10 update surprises, you might want to investigate the techniques referred to in this article: http://www.infoworld.com/article/31...odys-win10tip-block-forced-win10-updates.html
Looks like you need to do a Disk Cleanup to remove your old Windows files as I see that with every Windows Insider builds. https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca...-996f-99e02c7301c2/disk-cleanup-in-windows-10 also it's a hidden folder. https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/14201/windows-show-hidden-files
Yes, I noticed that free space on the SSD had shrunk, all of a sudden with the update. But, I will check those links, and see how to proceed with the safe removal of unnecessary folders and files.
Yes, all the way to Honolulu where he sits on the beach with a drink...working on VS? Would not be surprising.
Thanks Dan, I will check it out, later today...I have to get some sleep....fast approaching 2.00 am in the morning.
Hey @VoodooShield Dan time to show off VS and sell it to some big names , AI stuff seems to be popular to get lot of cash (Deepviz, Invincea are bought)
@Tarnak, would this have made a difference? Drawing on my own lack of clarity when jerked back to Earth from a far galaxy Not that I want to tell Dan how to do his job, but OTOH when you're deep in Windows innards...
Great Thanks Daniel. I recall you saying this before in the WR Forum. It a good reminder when I get to the Windows Insider builds.
I didn't know what "c:\Windows~bt\sources\setuphost.exe was about, but I knew it was important in some way....
@VoodooShield I have been away awhile and have come back to find your portable Voodooai link "usually in your signature" missing? Is this something your not allowing access to now?
Hey everyone... sorry I have been away and not been able to check in and say hi, I will catch up on the posts I missed asap. I have been trying to wrap up VS 3.51, and I hope to have that for you guys soon. BTW, Krusty... on the Norton Toolbar, have you tried to delete all of the .dat files in the C:\ProgramData\VoodooShield folder? The reason I ask is because I had already fixed several things, then when I was working on the Norton Toolbar issue, it seemed to work great. I tested it on a brand new VM, so it had all clean .dat files. Anyway, I think it will be fixed either way in 3.51... I was just curious if you tried deleting the .dat files. Alex is working hard on the enterprise web management console, and it is turning out really well... so hopefully everything will be ready soon. Depending on how things go, I might even see if Alex wants to take over the VS development as well, the same way Vlad did... we are at a point that I simply cannot keep up with everything anymore. Thank you guys, talk to you soon!
Hey there stranger, welcome back! Glad to see you're still with us. No, I never tried deleting the .dat files. My work-around was to reset the whitelist with FF still open. Norton Security is not installed on my machines now because the latest version is a PITA for me. I do still have the stand-alone ID Safe installed but it's not compatible with the 64-bit FF anyway. Cheers.
Also see plenty of those in the Developer Logs. Hopefully it's fixed in 3.51. Also had this strange issue. For a while I've been struggling to update Adguard (beta). Someone on the Adguard thread suggested I uninstall VS, as this had resolved the issue for him. Instead I exited VS, instead of the normal 'Disable / Install Mode' and the update worked! Can't prove it's VS, and I don't see any blocks in the Developer Logs. Will have to see if it recurs.
I tried VS in "training mode" to update Adguard that didn't work, then "disable mode" that didn't work either. Did not try "Exit". Just uninstalled VS, that worked.
I can tell you for a fact the issues with selecting the disable/install mode is not fixed. I always go the exit route and that always works. Really sounds like Dan needs a long vacation. I don't anyone here would mind at all.
Vs has been messing with restoring image (Macrium Reflect) since I been doing backups with VS installed. After a restore instead of "Welcome" screen been getting "Preparing windows" not all the time, maybe two out of four times a re-boot solves the problem. I do not want to restore a to an image that isn't 100% fine. I like VS very much but until this fixed will set it aside for now. Windows 7 64
Hmm I do restores all the time on Win 7 and nary an issue. I've seen what you describe once or twice but not a problem and rare
