right! I did finally remember that, sometime this morning. but resetting windows firewall did not help in this case, neither did disabling it altogether.

I am certainly no expert, but I've got to wonder if this is a conflict with one of your security products (i.e. Zal, etc.) or something unique to your system somehow? Maybe install in safemode?

I'm not an expert too, and for sure something is blocking VS from installing correctly. But i'm using this configuration early with VS beta free, the only change was VS (pro version), and HMP.A in real time, ZAL on demand

Nice to meet you gorblimey! What is VS actually blocking? Please let me know and we will figure it out, thank you!

Hmmm, that is odd that the VoodooShieldService is missing. Have you tried to right click on the VS installer and choose Run as Admin? That is my first guess... if that does not work, let me know and I will be trying to think of other ways to fix this in the meantime. Thank you!

sure, the first thing i did! I did try to execute it from task manager too (after install)... but as i say: VoodooShieldService is missing!
When reinstalling VS after a clean uninstall and reboot, this service didn't install.

I have a silly question... have you disabled all of your security software, or anything that might interfere with VS's installation? ;).

i always used this combo... never had an issue. But yes, i uninstalled HMP.A, ZAL... only WD in real...
Just keep present, the installation go fine, no warning... but at the end... no screen shoot, no prompt from VS (Smart mode, or Autopilot)... so don't start..

What do you see when your run tracet command? How far do your packets get?

If you run Fiddler and check the right pane it might provide some info an any errors. (No errors in the scrrenshot below)

    Fiddler Web Debugger 2.jpg

I notice that it uses a secure https:// connection. Do you have an onboard AV with SSL scanning enabled. I've heard of problems with ESET and others where after a program upgrade the SSL scanning component stops working correctly and cannot import/ validate trusted certificates and blocks connections. Disable SSL scanning component as a test if you have such an AV.

I've had that problem in the past. From memory it was something to do with a faulty .NET Framework installation that somehow prevented some files from being properly deleted/ replaced.

Try exiting any VoodooShield process if showing in task manger. Check running processes and services with ProcessHacker and in the "Process List" tab right click and stop them. In the "Services" tab check for, stop and delete VS Service and driver if they exist.

    Process Hacker.jpg

    Navigate to:
    C:\Program Files\VoodooShield
    C:\ProgramData\VoodooShield

and delete folders and contents. In an Explorer window opened in both of these locations hit F5 and check that VoodooShield folders do not appear in the results list. If a VoodooShield folder still appear inProgram Files or Program Data then something has not been properly deleted.
    C:\Program Files
    C:\ProgramData

    Reboot.

Wait a few minutes for everything to load then run the VS installer.

Maybe services/registries are messed up. Not a guaranteed fix, but wouldn't hurt to try running Tweaking.com AIO Repair.

How far does the VS installation get? Is there an error message during installation?

There should be a VoodooShieldService.InstallLog file in the C:\Program Files\VoodooShield directory… does that tell you anything? Can you please send it to me?

Also, after you install VS, is the VoodooShieldService.exe file in the C:\Program Files\VoodooShield directory?

Is there a DeveloperLog.log file in the C:\ProgramData\VoodooShield folder? If so, can you please send it to me?

Check for and delete the same folders/ files if found. Reboot.
Maybe delete the downloaded installer and grab a fresh copy. Right click and try "run as administrator" to run the installer?

Yeah, I always try to make the best decision... but sometimes I might miss one or two ;).

Next time VS has a major release, we will throw a huge party in Vegas, is that cool? ;).

That's the plan... as soon as billions of web connected devices automatically lock when they are at risk ;).
