Is it correct that VS becomes inactive and turns red whilst in "Always On" mode - while a browser is actually running but has lost focus ?

I thought that was what Smart Mode did - and Always On was just that...active & blue all the time, regardless of what`s happening ?

It does reactivate when the browser comes back in focus....in both Always On & Smart mode.

Ok I love the new version. I really like the uploading hash to virustotal. Very cool feature. What is the difference in the slider under tweaks that has fast computer/slow computer?

Hi, if VS is in Always ON mode, it will not toggle when the browser or email client is opened and closed, it will just stay ON. However, if the user left clicks to turn VS Off to allow something, then the option for reactivating when a browser gets focus can take reactivate VS. Keep in mind, VS is set to auto deactivate after 5 minutes of user inactivity to allow for background processes to be allowed.

Smart mode will toggle VS on and off as a web browser or email client is launched. And yes, both smart and always on can use the browser focus option. This is the first version that has this feature, and it works quite well, but I think we can make it even better in the next version. Thank you!

Thank you, we appreciate that! That feature is basically the timer interval on the snapshot. It simply determines how often a snapshot it taken, ranging from 1ms to 250ms. I noticed on netbooks and tablets, VS has around a 2-5% cpu utilization, and I just wanted a way to dial that back a little. So what you can do it find an executable that is not whitelisted, try to run it, and have VS kill it. The further to the right that the slider is, the slower it will kill the unwanted processes. But I noticed on slower systems, it runs just was well, or better, if you dial it back a little. I have a netbook, and I run it around the middle of the slider and it works great. Thank you!

I`m having a puzzling experience here and would like to know what I`m doing wrong :(

Issue appears regarding Freecommander [filemanager] & TeraCopy [replacement copyhandler]

VS in Smart Mode - all tweaks are checked - Email client is active - VS is blue/On

I try to copy a file within FreeCommander which invokes TeraCopy to perform the copy....here`s what happens:

VS alert bubble appears - "VS Blocked TeraCopy..."
Click the alert bubble, then click Allow on the resulting VS dialog box - empty TeraCopy window then appears, but it has done nothing

    VS has now turned red/Off

Try to copy the same file again as above, and VS allows it (as expected, because it`s red/off)

BUT - reactivate email or browser so VS turns blue/On and repeat the above steps...

and TeraCopy is blocked all over again, repeating behaviour...

If I manually whitelist the complete FreeCommander folder, which contains TeraCopy - no problems occur, but that surely isn`t the way to do it ?!

I simply want to whitelist TeraCopy - but something somewhere is not allowing it to be whitelisted.

(I have obviously run through the whole of the above steps in Training Mode, it makes no difference)

    Confused o_O

I agree, this is very odd. Are you running the latest version of TeraCopy, and what directory is it installed in? The reason I ask is because I am starting to think that maybe an older version of TeraCopy used the dos copy command, which VS would block if it was not checked in the blacklist options. I installed the latest versions of freecommander and TeraCopy, and VS did not block anything at all, even with the blacklist options unchecked. So maybe an older version of TeraCopy used the dos copy command, or was installed in a different directory other than Program Files? Also, it should show up in the user log as well. Please let us know, because we would like to get this resolved! Thank you!

Thanks for the info, think there`s been a development !

Since you just mentioned "installed in a folder other than program files".....well, they most certainly are elsewhere....

Temporarily moving the whole folder into the Program Files folder appears to create no issues at all ! :thumb:

They {Freecommander & TeraCopy} are both "portable-ised" and in a single folder, residing on a totally different drive - any attempt at running it outside of the Program Files folder causes the problem, whether it`s on a Ram Drive (which is where they run from usually) or in my "Portable programs" folder which I leave directly in C: - both attempts fail that way.

    That`s very good.....
but doesn`t explain why I can`t whitelist teracopy regardless of where it`s running from, so although one thing has been explained, it leaves another question as to why I am restricted from running it from anywhere else

(Not forgetting, that manually whitelisting the whole folder also cures the problem.....even when it`s on the Ram Disk.)

I believe it is because of the option in Settings that allows all software from the Program Files Folder. If an executable is allowed in this folder, it should work, unless it is blacklisted. I hope this helps!

I've been running VS 1.08 now for 3 days. It's still blocking msiexec.exe, but I don't really mind. Maybe it's the safer thing to do. It's working great with Windows 7 X 64. Its hard to believe its working so good since I also have Online Armor, Appguard, and NOD 32 installed on this machine. All I really need now is a good Packet Filter FW instead of OA. This is quite a lot of security apps to run on a Laptop.

VS might block things for a week or so until it is fully trained. Have you tried to check the MSI Files option in the Do Not Blacklist settings for a day or so to help train VS quicker? Thank you!

No, I really don't mind it blocking it. I may give that a try soon.

I went to edit my whitelist and found four of them. I deleted 3 so there is only one now. I assume that new installs may have caused this. BTW, I am only using VS on one computer.

Dan - Hope you are feeling better. A suggestion, when editing the whitelist it would be nice to be able to remove multiple items rather than one at a time. Also, rather than edit I decided to reset the whitelist and noticed it was not reset on your server. Is there a time lag? Anyhow I deleted and re-added the PC name. This reset the whitelist back to "0" on your server. I then retrained my PC. I just like to clean the whitelist of uninstalled programs and other stuff now and then.

Thank you trjam, we appreciate that! Yes, the Windows 8 App Store is fixed. There is an option in settings to Automatically allow Windows 8 Metro App Installations.
