Currently running 2.10, received prompt to auto-update (to 2.11?) this morning. I am unable to update with the following error:
there is no, was no paid version .yet... VS said there would be 2 versions. Granted the free version was to have less function..
As far as I am aware v2.11 is still a beta or perhaps more accurately a 'Technical Release' pending a Final...so I have no idea what Neowin are playing at here as I would have expected Dan to share his plans with us (as he has done os far). SO I think that we have to await Dan's view on how he will take VS forward once v2 is Final...I am sure that he is considering the best approach and will advise at the appropriate time.
gHacks VoodooShield review (he doesn't seem to like it too much, unfortunately): http://www.ghacks.net/2014/10/18/vo...by-only-allowing-whitelisted-programs-to-run/ edit: Much of the opinion seems to be linked to wanting it to be a fully-functional freeware, perhaps.
Well, all I say is that I have never held much store by what they blather on about liking or not liking as evidenced by this little gem: Limitations The free version of the program is limited. It does not provide you with options to change advanced settings, for instance directories that you want blacklisted or whitelisted, or manage the whitelist in any way. This is a serious problem as you have no control or even access to the whitelist to check whether a program is in it or not. If you accidentally allow malicious software to run in training mode, then it won't be blocked by the application later on when you turn it on. As far as I know Dan has not pronounced on what version will be available and in what way they will differ...so why not wait for the man to announce how he will proceed, before trying to scoop the release of a product. Hot air, fluff & stuff IMHO. Baldrick
@Baldrick Thanks Squire, yes uninformed pronouncements are never helpful, and I'm going to give this latest v2.11 a try, with just WSA (can't decide about firewall, PFW now), similar to yourself and TH. as soon as I've time to prepare (tomorrow).
Hi Dermot I have to say that I have no more idea of what will happen re. VS in terms of commercials...but I, like you, do not see the need to speculate on this. Dan has always been up front and open re. VS, his plans and the direction he is looking to go...and now is the time to support him as much as possible whilst he makes the decision that will take VS into the stratosphere... As to running VS with WSA...do not hesitate to reach out to me (and I am sure that Daniel would say the same) if you need any help/advice. In terms of ditching PFW, there is no need to if you find it best for you...and indeed you may find the Windows Firewall very unfriendly compared to what you are used to...as I did...and so I invested very, very little money (relative to what you get in return) for Windows 7 Firewall Control (there is a thread dedicated to it here at Wilders) which provides a welcome and usable granular front end to the built in Firewall...I would recommend that if you decide to go with the WSA/VS combo (lightest in the business ) and ditch PFW as well you check out WFC as a matter of course. Anyway, you know where to find me if I can be of any assistance to you. Cheers, Bladrick
Just started using the program and I think it's great, however I'm not sure if it's because I'm using it under Windows 10 or if it is because these functions are disabled on the free version, but I cannot access the program settings at all, I cannot even hide the program's Gadget that shows up on the desktop, I would rather just keep the system tray icon, this is very annoying because it continues to show even when you are running full screen apps or videos. I think this is a great tool to install on people's computers so they don't get so infected, keep the good work.
Hi RealAct The features you mention (plus some others) are, as far as I know, only available in the paid for/registered version...which I think that you can do for $19.99...a real bargain in my opinion. Regards, Baldrick
Hi... VS detect 7zip I just fresh download from sourceforge as a trojan? while panda can't find anything... http://s17.postimg.org/3wbqogplr/image.png
To be accurate it is not VS per se but rather the check at VirusTotal that has provided this result...VS just uses VT to carry out the check and reports back what VT has found. If you believe that this is wrong, click on Block and then turn VS off and retry...you should be able to do what you believe is safe to do.
I still get many false positives with VS cloud AV. I'm looking forward to having an option to allow false positives. Below is a screenshot of VS blocking flash player from checking for an update.
Well, that does not put VT in a very good light does it, or is it VS's interpretation of the VT finding that is the issue?
Thanks for the info, does anyone know if there's a lifetime license available for purchase? I would definitely purchase a lifetime license.
Yeah, it was pay only, we did not offer the free version. If you want a Pro license, just email me at dan@voodooshield.com and I will hook you up!
