Hi, startvs.exe starts voodooshield.exe and makes sure it is running, and protects it from being killed. Once we run the engine as a service, we will remove startvs.exe because we will not need it anymore. I think you might be right about startvs.exe heating up your laptop. To test this, you can go to Settings / Advanced and uncheck the "Self Protect VoodooShield from being killed" option. The startvs.exe was simply a quick fix to keep VS running until we ran the engine as a service, so it is not the best solution to protect VS from being killed. I might rewrite startvs.exe over the weekend and include it in the next release, and hopefully it will not use as many cpu cycles. Thank you!

I just had a program to update I clicked on the balloon the page came up and I click on Allow but the window would not go away till the program updated and I clicked on Check with VT and the Window disappeared so I don't know if it's a bug or not? How about putting a red X at the top right to close the window?

    Daniel ;)

I was hoping that this was fixed in 1.26.3. Can you please let me know what program had the issue so I can check it out? Sure, we can put a red x at the top of the window just in case this happens again. Thank you for letting me know!

    Thanks Dan and pegr

I had assumed that when it was Off it was Off as in turning off a light bulb. Maybe this could be changed to something else because I am sure others will assume as I did. Maybe Standby, SB for short. Would tie in with what others are used to in TV's, PVR's etc??

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. We are basically trying to figure out what makes the most sense to the most amount of users, and any input we get on this is definitely appreciated! With the exception of protecting the user space, when VS is in Smart Mode, and no web apps are running, it is OFF and learning new software to allow. The trick is to make it is easy to use as possible and have it make the most sense to everyone. Thank you!

Here is the latest version. The web server error that Cutting_Edgetech discovered had to be fixed in the VS software, but it should be working now.

I also added TH's close button on the Alert Screen. But if anyone has problems with the Alert Screen freezing, or the Allow button not working, please let me know!

Edit: BTW... Overkill, this version should fix the problems that you were talking about a couple weeks ago as well. (I think it was Overkill, it might have been djg05. Either way, it should be working great!)

The thing is that it is not OFF, it is still consuming CPU cycles. If it were Off then it would not be doing any work. Maybe my logic is at fault but that is the way it appears to me from your explanation.

Well, if you put VS into Disable Protection mode, it truly is doing nothing at all. But when it is in Smart Mode / OFF, it is doing a lot. It is watching for web apps so it will activate, it is protecting the user space, and it is watching for new apps to allow outside of the user space. This is a lot more work then when VS is in Always ON mode, because when it is in Always ON Mode, all VS is simply doing is killing anything that is not on the whitelist. Does that make sense?

Thanks - I understand what you are saying. But will a novice user appreciate that? That is why I suggested calling it a standby mode because it is ready to react to any interference. When it is in training mode then it is more effectively off since it is no longer protecting. Perhaps when Off in Smart Mode you could change the colour of the icon to maybe amber, and keep red for Training Mode.

Just thoughts - don't want to derail you.

That would be like finding a needle in a haystack...I downloaded a pack of malware from malwaretips and just started clicking, I didn't pay attention to the random file names...the best I can do is send a link to the one I think it might be?

Sounds good, thank you, I got it. I will see if I can find which one killed ie. If you were clicking on multiple viruses, one right after another, pretty much anything could happen with the OS, but that it a great way to test VS!

I installed 1.26.4 over 1.26.3 earlier today, and I have not had any problems out of this build yet. I've mostly been using Always On Mode, and doing normal everyday routine work. The whitelist is working for me so far. I have not used Shadow Defender with VS today. I will do some testing in Smart Mode tomorrow. So far so good.

Running 1.26.4 clean install. Running Smart Mode

Installed Opera 12.15. VS pops up. Click Allow and nothing happens so have to click red X to close the window down.

Also having a repeat problem from earlier versions on a clean install. VS installs and reboots. The help screen pops up and cannot be closed. Have to use Task Manager to shut VS down and restart it. Then it runs ok.

Possible one of the problems is that the login window is hidden behind the help window.

I had the same problem as Firefox Auto-updated to 23.0.1 and I clicked allow and nothing then used the Red X to close the window and then put VS in Training mode and started again to let it install.

    1.26.4 running no problems.

Even if VoodooShield gave about the same protection as UAC I'd still keep it on my computer if for no other reason than not having to click on all the UAC alerts. But from what's been said VS is a lot stronger than UAC, so all the better.

Anyone know if the "Drop Rights" feature of Sandboxie (which causes a conflict with VoodooShield and Chrome and I've had to disable) is compensated for in any way by VS or WSA protection?

Cool, thank you for letting me know. When you say help screen, is that the How it Works screen? For some reason, if the internet connection is not quite established yet on the computer, it freezes. It should be an easy fix. And the login window is the registration screen, right? I will check it out, thank you!

Yeah, the firefox update is a tricky one, along with some of the other updates. If hackers would quit putting their viruses in the appdata directory, it would make it a lot easier for av developers ;). The problem is we are limited on what we can do since allowing these updates would make it easy for the hackers to spoof legitimate updates. But hopefully we can come up with a better solution then putting VS in training mode. Thank you!

Good to hear VS is running great, thank you! I am not too familiar with SB, but hopefully someone who is can answer that for you.
