Now that it's free you are the product.

    Hi Stapp et al

Thanks for the update. Since we are going to have to update VMWare Workstation Pro manually, do we know whether VMWare Pro can be overwritten by the updated version, or do we have to uninstall the current version?

    Thanks

    Terry

You can update over the top. Been doing it for years and the new versions still work.

    Hi xxJackxx

Thanks for that. Most helpful. Today I managed the transition to the new authentication system that they warned us about in December/January last. Now I can actually access the downloads if I need it.

Let's just hope they continue to update VMWare Workstation Pro and hopefully correct the auto update feature. The current saga seems so unnecessary, and destabilising.

    Hello @ Wilders

This may be the orchestrator of the inability to update VMWare Workstation Pro:-

VMware vCenter: Update tokens required as of April 23, 2025

[German]Brief information for users and administrators of VMware by Broadcom vCenter installations. It looks like Broadcom is going to throw the next chicane into the ring for VMware vCenter customers. From April 23, 2025, vCenter administrators will probably only be able to pull and distribute updates with update tokens.

Previously, VMware by Broadcom products were able to download and install their own updates from the Broadcom servers.""

Looks like a good time for a competitor to step up and give folks a better option.
