The favorite Desk Top poll got me thinking.

Would really like a bit more eye candy on my XP Pro machine. Are there any of the programs that can do this with out adding dunning services and or processes?

    I tried many.

All look cheepish and cause slow down to some extent, IMO.

    Thanks Aigle.

Did not know about the cheapish appearance. But sure will pass if it puts any slow down on the system.

To be honet both things might be highly subjective. I am too sensitive in both issues.:)

ThunderZ, here's an old article that might be of interest to you: Make Windows XP Act Like Vista. As Aigle said, there's a performance hit with some of these programs, especially on a PC with minimum RAM. You'll be the judge.

Dual core w\ 4 gig of ram. Resources really are not a problem. Just prefer to keep them for the "necessary stuff".

Sort of like Aigle. A bit sensitive to the performance and appearance of my machine.

Thanks. May give it a try. But I know it adds a running process or two.

Seems what I am looking for may not exist due to my personal requirements and XP code limitations.

The best is the Vista Transformation Pack v9.01 with Windowblinds and Aerotime skin. There is no slowdown at all.

    See http://www.windowsxlive.net/

there is two processes for windowblinds i think.
one is a service so wont show in the process tab in taskman.
it will show in process explorer.

I don't need an OS for a neat looking desktop. I make mine pretty with stuff from digitalblasphemy.com Beautiful stuff and helps a cool entrepreneur.

I used Rainmeter with Hud skin.Similar to this lifehacker screen
Performance impact was minimal, even with 2 rss enabled.
I still like it but don't see the need for this anymore

The screen is from a vista but you can change the theme with some deviant art great creations, which will require windows blinds,or if u are adventurous the Uxtheme.dll patch

    Are you kidding?

Checkout dvtv's Deviantart Gallery. Smashing Visual Styles second to none IMHO.

    http://dvtv.deviantart.com/art/DZVista-Pink-44578822

You may have to Google Search for his other styles but they are AWESOME!!!

EDIT ALERT: Found too many pop ups.just Google them.

Found a nice orange Vista viusal style for ya: http://windowsthemes.org/windows-vista-themes/2008/12/31/dzvista-orange/

Just keep looking you'll find them all, but watch out for some sites because their not all on the level. DeviantArt is safest by far.

The best and bug free look for XP is Royale Noir theme, it works well and doesn't slow down.

Try Vista Inspirat Ultimate 2 the version 1 - I'm using it since many years - gives some problems with shell32 .DLL, i believ that they were solved in version 2 but I don't know. The 1 is/was better anyway.

I never do a new XP Pro install without VISTAMIZER, although i keep to version 1.15 mostly. I use Iphile to change all icons (even system) and never in years had problems with either one. Also included i use UberIcon and Vanimator from Aqua-Soft Forums.

Visual Styles are a matter of personal choice but i prefer the artist DZT who really is talented and with all these customizations i run along with my security apps too, everything runs smooth as silk, and snappy!

Heck, on one of my systems i even use MSchars "James" (useful & nifty time teller as well as other info if you're into CyberBuddy at all. Plus i run a MASSIVE collection of YouTube FLV Videos in a playlist named FLVPlayer4Free, the only FLV player that the playlist actually works like it should. I collect 10 minute Hollywood Classic clips and line them up in one folder when done, and FLVPlayer4Free allows you to selet the folder and it can run your movies all night or indefinitely (repeating). Not bad for a freeware at all.
