I have Vista ultimate and am doing a trial of Nod 2.7 with latest updates

Every time any of the users on my install right clicks the menu option "NOD32 antivirus system" a stop error dialogue is produced with "Cannot execute NOD32.exe"

Uninstall NOD32 (using uninstaller in All Programs > Eset), reboot, delete Eset folder under the 'Program Files' folder, then download and reinstall.

    http://download1.eset.com/eval/win/v2/nentenst.exe

Not something I like doing, but it does resolve a lot of issues and takes only a couple minutes vs. half an hour to research.

    Hope this helps.

    HI Bathrone, welcome to Wilders.

What previous antivirus was on your system prior to NOD32?

    Cheers :D

Previously I was trialling Kaspersky, and while it provides updates very quickly and probably leads the market in that area the hit to my system performance wasnt all that good. And I found the proactive defence features to be an annoance.

So with Nod I get good detection rates but importantly a lesser hit to my system performance.

Before I installed Nod32 the first time I thoroughly removed Kaspersky, rebooted, even did a registry clean.

I have since reinstalled Nod32 to no effect on fixing the problem.

I did a clean install of Vista ultimate.

You mentioned the problem occurred with "the users on my install". Are those people set up with Administrator privileges?

    Cheers :D

Yes mate, all of my users are administrators however group policy is set such that UAC is on and the "real" admin account is limited. i.e. Its a default Vista install.

I'll ask further with ESET to see what they suggest.

    Cheers :D

Please try disabling UAC during the installation.

    Cheers :D

Well i ran into a user privileges issue today with Vista Business.
Logged on as administrator, i could not do many things, after going into user accounts, there is a UAC option , (user administration control{i think}).
If you turn the option off, it turns back on by itselfo_O
Vista business features are incorporated in ultimate, so maybe this it the problem. the UAC!!!

I'd like to know how to turn it off for good.

Blackspear I acknowledge your trying to assist with this problem and I am thankful for that.

However, this is now the third time I have installed this commercial product to assess if I should buy it. I'm not a free beta tester to make up for the lack of good quality assurance coming out of ESET in their software.

The problem is deeper than a simple user access control conflict. Digging a bit deeper I now see in the problem reports and solutions control panel, that the NOD32 on demand scanner, the NOD32 Kernel Service and the NOD32 Control Centre GUI all have windows vista program compatability errors and that Vista has been reporting these errors to Microsoft as part of the new problem resolution process embedded in Vista.

I also see no ESET products are on the Vista certified list:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933305

I'm enthusiastic about NOD32 because I think it has some unique advantages over other antivirus products but its not of merchantable quality on vista in current software revisions. If you like, we can explore me becoming a beta tester of this product as I have over eleven years professional test experience in the industry (I can send my resume) for a licence or discount or something. Otherwise I will wait for a proper release from ESET to trial at another time.
