My PC has been infected with the Exploit:Win32/CVE-2011-1982 virus. Since then Windows Update (W7 Pro x64) is in a total shambles. To mention a few: a.) I can not manually request an update - it shows error 80073712. b.) Update History indicates repetitive installation of security updates while Installed History does not indicate anything at all.

Interestingly, the virus was detected by Windows Security Essentials, after I aggressively scanned my PC with Malwarebytes, PCTools Threatfire, and Bitdefender. The virus downloaded 70GB of rubbish within 3 hours into the Windows folder! I had to do a System Restore, downloaded the anti-virus and anti-malware updates, as well as Windows Security Essentials, then uncoupled the Internet and aggressively scanned the PC.

I also tried SFC.exe /scannow but this could not repair WU.

    Can anybody assist?
