    hello everyone,
i have just tested virus chaser 5.0a and i do like it
it only takes up 7.6mb harddrive space.
the popup when it detects a virus does seem to lock up my usb mouse thou.
its fine if i use the adaptor and put in the other port.
its quite funny when it goes to a dos mode to show the virus detected rather than the dialog i talked about above. its a dos mode drweb interface that comes up instead of the gui only happerned once thou.
i have seen that dos screen for getting rid of viruses once when i installed drweb on that same machine when it was infected and got rid of the trojan before windows loaded.

it uses almost 0 cpu and uses the dr web mail scanner instead of its own process for now.
i might have to send some virus samples to them to get some free subscription for the pc im building soon:D

updates should be small as well.
the guard can be disabled to easy like in dr web thou.
it needs password protection i think but other than that its a great little av

Yeah, I really like VC. The heuristics should be enabled soon for the HK version. It works very nicely and is also very light. :)

im glad the heristics will be enabled soon.
the updates are only like 2-3k each that makes the dr web 15k updates seem big:D
i like the event log which tells you what it done with the virus it found i only tested it with eicar because it was an offline pc but i just wanted to see what it did if set to get rid of threats automatically.
ps if anyone sends a virus sample to VC and gets a free month of VC and dont want it please give it to me

I'm not 100% sure that they will enable the heuristics, due to some differing comments from their support team on the matter, but that may be just be a communication gap, a wrong wording of the sentence which gives a different impression.

In either case, I did get a reply in an email that they are going to enable heuristic analysis soon, we shall see.

As for free months of VC, I cannot give you a license key, but I can give you undetected samples which you can submit for analysis ;)

But keep in mind that you need to register your trial or full version license of VC in order to be eligible for this. You can register the Hong Kong version at http://www.viruschaser.com.hk/eng/club/

BTW regarding process protection, I remember that SpiderNT.exe would load up immediately again every time I tried to disable it. So, in retrospect, it would *seem* that VC has slightly stronger process protection than Dr.Web.

that is good that it comes back right away
its quite cheap at around £20 i think i used xe.com for conversion
for the pc im building i want a light av that just works and slow me down while updating since kis6.0 uses nearly 100percent cpu while updating and laggs my online game.
the 3kb updates from virus chaser shouldnt slow me down lol
in testing alot of av's in windows ME it seems that windows ME and windows 98 have problems with mouse control with almost any av installed. even with dr web installed the mosue would lagg alot. that pc has a logitech mouse so i installed mouseware and now it doesnt lagg no more the updated drivers must of fixed it.
there is auto update which is default and manual update.
how often does the auto update check for updates?

Auto update checks for an update every four hours. Manual update, as you desire. An update is released every hour, as is normal with Dr.Web.

I have now confirmed that the heuristic analysis in VC will be enabled soon. :)

    basically yes:D
    i now prefer drweb.
i can overlook the interface of drweb since its not important to an av's function.
i mean i can have it almost like one interface by having one icon in drweb or have them seprate
i never liked having an on and off button for an av to easy to turn off by mistake which virus chaser has.
