Wilder's Forum Software question: LWM or others, I have been thinking about this and have discussed this with several others. I would like to be able to view a list displaying all the members that are following me here at Wilder's. Is that possible? I have the same concerns elsewhere as notices/alerts pop up showing names I have never seen at those sites too. Many times these followers have zero posts. Stalkers, LOL!! I assume this would be a private thing where only I (obviously Admin's too) could pop up the tabulation by logging into my account here. Also, are there any available account features whereby we can adjust the follower setting? Personal member allowances, or global inability to follow our account? I saw a thread from back in 2014, but we are using new software now. Any changes?
Would the concern be taken care of by cranking your Personal Details and Contact Details privacy preferences up to "People you follow only"? Wouldn't really matter who followed you then.
What about: Empty search, posted by member $whoever? Someone manually following your posts? Someone using their own bot to follow your posts? Someone using a third-party search engine to identify and follow your posts?
Indeed, that works just fine, just the first one for example: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/search/3711978 Some people just like to watch, like me. Sometimes you learn more by simply reading, if you have nothing meaningful to post anyway.
@Palancar If you set it to "People you follow only" you have some protection against groupies/stalkers. But only your personal/contact-details are protected. Your posts are public and can still be found: Regarding your request "displaying all the members that are following me" i have found something. https://xenforo.com/community/threads/peeople-following-me.108416/ If you look there at Post #8 and click the link you can see on the profile: "Following" and all "Followers". Our profile at Wilders looks different, but you can achieve the same If you want to see all people that are following you, go to your profile-url and simply append: followers As we have no option in the profile to see all followers, you have to append "followers" manually. Edit: small correction
I asked a member to check my following/follows and they reported accurate results (I follow 0, 3 following me). For context, I have: Show your online status: Unchecked Show your current activity: Unchecked View your details on your profile page: Members Only Receive your news feed: Unchecked Following/follows information isn't on the details page, and it isn't necessarily a detail that a member would want others to view, so I'm thinking the "View details on profile page" setting should not control the viewability of one's following/follows. I get the feeling it does. Is this a XenForo implementation limitation or is there some XenForo option that is configured to allow it? Note: I acknowledged some related issues earlier (not to be dismissive of Palancar's post but to surface them) and I'm personally not concerned about my following/follows info being accessed. However, from a privacy standpoint, I am thinking that a member's following/follows deserves its own protection/control.
You are correct that the "View your details on your profile page" setting is what controls the ability of others to see your followers and followings. There is no a separate setting to control that. My guess is that they did this in keeping with general social media where followers and who you follow appear to be public knowledge. But, that's just a guess on my part. The reason our profile pages look different than most XenForo sites is I run a kind of "de-social-media" addon, which reduces all the different subpages from the profile page down to a simple, single page. One of the things dropped off is the whole follower/following thing, as well. The simplification addon was not meant as a security change, just to basically reduce out all the excess that really wasn't needed in my opinion, and which we also did not have when we ran vBulletin before this.
